The Great Great Wall of China - was Great.
We had booked on a trip - but it was more of a taxi ride with entry fees paid for us - which picked us up at 7am. LM had not been very well the past few days with a bad cough and cold, and we had been a bit doubtful about doing this trip as it was 10k walking. So we left him asleep as we got on the mini bus in his pj's and got a few funny looks from the other tourists - and words of warning from the chinese about the terrain we were walking.
Arrived at the Great wall at about 9.30 and told we had until 1.30pm to do the walk otherwise our lunch would be cold. The "guide" came about 1k and then disappeared - only to turn up at the other end! There were about 8 in the group - and only one other group the whole way - and it was wonderful. Mongolia on one side, China on the other. Part of the wall was completely rubble, other parts restored. We walked through 30 towers - up and down some very steep steps. CT did very well carrying LM most of the way - and even the girls did well - surprised when we reached the end - how easy is 10k now! It was magical most of the way - very quiet and atmospheric due to the mist and sun, wished we could have stayed there longer.
