From Wanaka it was onto Queenstown, where we stayed for 2 days. This was definitely a place where we would have stayed for longer if we'd had the time. Known as the adventure capital of New Zealand, there were just so many things that we could've done. We did manage to do one extreme activity though, something called the Ledge Sky Swing. We took a gondola up to the top of a mountain and trotted off down to the swing site, which is right next to the bungy jump as its run by the same company. They harness you up then lower you off the ledge so you are dangling 400m above Queenstown. It is a bit different to other swings in that the guys running the show normally release you, but with this one, you have to release yourself with the knowledge that you are about to drop towards Queenstown. After releasing yourself(which we both did surprisingly quickly), you drop about 40m or so before swinging up, and then swinging back and forth a few times. It is an amazing feeling. I would say it's scarier than a skydive. It certainly gives you more of an adrenalin rush, although skydiving as a whole was still better. Here's a link to show you how awesome it was - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqBiXnHC0nk.
We left Queenstown early next morning for Christchurch. It was a very long bus journey up to Christchurch, but we did manage to get there in time for me to take Chris along to his first ever cricket match, a New Zealand vs. Australia twenty20 international. What a game to see first up! For those of you who don't know, Brendon McCullum played one of the best innings I have ever seen. He smashed the joint fastest twenty20 international century to take New Zealand to 214 after 20, only for Australia to scramble a tie off the last ball! This brought into play the super over eliminator form which New Zealand won easily. The atmosphere was amazing with some great banter from the crowds, as you'd expect from a game between New Zealand and Australia. It's fair to say that Chris enjoyed his first cricketing experience. He was even joining in the chants of "you f****d up" when an Australian dropped a catch. Obviously, we were supporting New Zealand!
Arrived in Melbourne a couple of days ago for our 55 day stay in Oz. Visited the museum yesterday, which was really interesting. Think we'll try and find the beach today. No shortage of them here!
