Okay, sorry about not updating the blog in quite a while. We have been busy, we swear! and i'll tell you how.
Okay, the last time we wrote the blog i think we left off at Melbourne museum, so if you're sitting comfortably then i'll begin (you better be sitting comfortably, i can't tell).
The next day in Melbourne we went back to the museum and went to see Avatar in 3D on the worlds third biggest screen! (the worlds biggest is here in Sydney) the 3D was immense on a film like that, my eyes were only able to just frame the size of the screen.
The rest of the day was spent sorting things out like our hostel in Canberra and the greyhound bus.
The next day we went to visit the MCG (Melbourne cricket ground) as you can guess Tom was very excited as it is the worlds biggest cricket stadium there were lots of statues of famous australian athletes dotted around the place that we took photos with. Unfortunately the only view of the inside we saw was through the gift shop but it looked very impressive. We then went to the tennis stadiums nearby, though we could only see the outsides and a new stadium that was being built. It looked pretty impressive, it was basically loads of half orbs joint together, looked very weird.
Unfortunately we didn't see the Australian team practicing seeing as they were in New Zealand at the time.
The next day we went to visit the Neighbours set, sadly we didn't see Dr. Karl or Harold or Lou but we did meet the actress who used to play Janelle and luckily seeing as i watched the show on and off at the time she was in it i was able to talk to her without it being awkward. We got to see all the shops including harolds shop, charlies bar, lassiters and toady's law office and some new buildings that they haven't used in the show yet (wooo sneak peek) after those we got to go to the real Ramsay street and hold up a sign with it written on. I meanwhile wrote my own script in my mind for a neighbours episode where it turns out Steph has died and her ghost is haunting Toady, meanwhile Susan reveals her true form of a giant lizard and leaves for Cairns, Dr. Karl goes inspecting a group of strange 'sin' related murders in Ramsay Street and Paul Robinson funds enron.
About 5 minutes after we got off of the neighbours bus it started to hail, with hailstones that got to the size of quails eggs! we were lucky enough to run to a small shelter in time where we got hit by a few hailstones, a couple in the back of head was rather painful, soon the wind picked up and it started to rain viciously, eventually the roads were flooded, cars could hardly move through them and when they did it caused a wave of haily water that swept towards our feet. Unfortunately for Tom he decided to wear sandals that day (can hardly blame him, a few hours earlier it was a scorchingly hot day)
When we got back to our hostel after about 2 hours of hiding from the hail and rain and eventually running through it we experienced a power cut and everyone had to be evacuated from the hostel, unfortunately some people got trapped in the lift. The power cut lasted for about 2 hours but eventually everyone was rescued from the lift and we were able to go back to our rooms.
The next day it was time for us to leave Melbourne, originally i had my doubts about it as a city but after exploring it a lot we discovered that it is actually a really nice city in certain places, it's no Auckland but it's not too crowded but still retains that classic city feel.
Our next stop on the trip was Canberra, we had to get up at 6am to get our bus though. On the bus though we were shown Titanic to pass the time. It rained monstrously again unfortunately.
When we got to Canberra it was pretty easy to find our hostel. It was our first YHA hostel and it was by far the nicest hostel we've been in so far, the rooms were huge and had sofas in them! SOFAS! and we had a balcony that you could actually walk around on. We didn't do much on our first day there except cook seeing as we were so tired from having to get up that early but on our second day we went to the war memorial, i actually found a C. Bone on the list of soldiers. Strangely there was no T. Graham though.
There was an underground museum that we visited too............
To be concluded tomorrow
Now for the shocking conclusion of our blog so far.
After the museum we went back to the hostel and entered a pool competition, the prize was free breakfast! Tom got knocked out in the first round but i won by luck when my oponent accidentally potted the black before he was supposed to. I was pretty much an even game until then though. I got knocked out in the second round by the guy who beat Tom, sadly no free breakfast for us. It was fun though and i can say i got into the semi-finals of a pool competition (sounds much better than what actually happened-i wont though)
The next day we left Canberra to come here (Sydney) after about 2 hours of searching for our hostel we finally found it. And what a horrible hostel it was, the rooms were so hot and so small, the beds were rock hard and it was really expensive. So we left there the next day. Though we were able to meet up with some people we met in New Zealand on the Kiwi experience that day, that was pretty cool seeing as we thought judging by what time we'd be there etc. we wouldn't be able to.
More tomorrow.....in part 3 (sorry part 2 was short, not much internet time, besides good to leave it on a cliffhanger)
Sorry about the delayed blog entry but here is part 3 (gasps) Okay so the day after we saw the Danish girls we met in New Zealand we had another familar face to meet up with. Abbey! so we gave her a ring and decided to meet up, she was staying in Byron Bay and was coming into the city that day so we arranged a meeting up point, conveniently we decided on the Sydney Opera House (which me and tom had not seen before)
We waited on the steps of the opera house and after a short while i spotted someone and said to Tom, "is that Abbey?" we kept pondering this as the mysterious figure came closer towards us, then she waved and we realised. We just went out for a drink and little tour of the city with her and her two friends but it was really nice. Great to see a familiar face as well, not as surreal as i expected seeing her all the way in Sydney.
The next day we decided to go on the monorail and see a bit of the city. It wasn't exactly the most tourist-y thing but it was still pretty cool to get the monorail. (that's one more mode of transportation crossed off my list) We looked around for some souvenirs to buy people back home but unfortunately we didn't find anything in the tacky little souvenir shops (probably just as well for everyone back home- it would of been tacky) though we did come across a pouch that looked like a kangaroos scrotum and was advertised as precisely that and a backscratcher made of a kangaroos paw (apparently) they were pretty disgusting as gifts go.
Later in the day we decided to get the monorail again to watch the fireworks at the harbour, unfortunately they lasted about 5 minutes and we missed them, we could hear them though (they sounded pretty good) but we did see a crazy Japanese man eat fire and juggle knives, and make some pretty cool balloon animals (he was a performer, not some random crazy guy)
Today we went to the beach and i had to create another stalling method because i have 50 seconds of internet left. Hold that thought!
Well yesterday we went to Bondi Beach, unfortunately by the time we got there it wasn't as sunny as when we set out, still it was a really lovely day. I bought a crab claw and a prawn thing in batter, those were really nice, they seemed appropriate. In the water there were jellyfish everywhere, luckily the ones close to the waters edge wouldn't do anything if they touched you. The day we went there was a surfing competition on so there wasn't too much space on the beach but we found a spot and were able to watch some of the competition, without understanding anything about it.
