Hello,
We have moved down from the mountains and back into the heat and are in a town called Hoi An.
We have spent the last few days cycling around the old town which is full of beautiful old buildings. We had a tour around one old family home (we were shown around by one of the family) which was really interesting. The house was over 200 years old and a mix of chinese and vietnamise arcutecture. She showed us how they pray to there ansestors and leave food for them everyday. They belevie that the ancestors can eat and drink as much as they like. On there ancestors birthday (or it could have been the day they died.. but i think she said birthday) They leave a lot of food for there ancestors and leave that ansestors box open (each ancestor has a box with a plack inside with there biography written on it) and then in the evening, when the ancestors have eaten all they want the family gather and celebrate the birthday and eat the left over food. They also bury the placentor and abilical cord of every child born in the family in the back garden!
Off to Hue in an hour or so and then on to Hanoi to meet up with Janey, Meeshy, Paddy, Tom and Doctor Chris Tate.. woohoo!!
