Got up early the next morning and headed to the bus station to catch the bus for Ilha Grande. Took a 3 hr bus to a small port which had a couple of oil rigs in it, spotted some company men, vecto 'engineers' and DD's lying about sleeping, typical!!
Jumped on a sail boat type thing and headed off for the island, the boat journey took 1 hr 30mins, we met a sound Canadian couple on the boat who we arranged to meet up with later on at some point. The girl with the lesbian's mates was also with us and we all stayed in the same place.
The island was really nice, a small town with 2 piers, all the good beaches are on other parts of the island so you either have to walk or take a taxi boat to them. Eventually found our hostel which was quite nice, they had no private rooms so we stayed in a dorm for the first night, the dorms were male and female which was quite annoying but only for the 2 nights. There was a place selling just crepes which made Brid's day, we headed to a weigh your plate restaurant place which was ok but nothing amazing. A dog and a cat kept sitting next to me while I was eating am making me feel guilty so I fed them my leftovers. Bought some beers, played cards for a while at the hostel and headed to bed, gonna walk to the main beach tomorrow which is 2 hrs away.
The hostel has a really good breakfast although they serve cake for breakfast which is good but makes me loose my six pack. Set off for our 2 hr trek to the island, there was quite a lot of up hill parts and Brid and the lesbian befriended were straggling, so I walked on ahead and met up with the Canadian couple who were heading the same way, finally made it to the beach and it was pretty nice. The sand was like flour and there was hardly anyone there, the 5 of us made camp and the Canadian guy, Darren headed off into the water to play in the waves. They were huge and were got completely battered to the point we though we might drown at one point, good fun though. Brid even came into the water at one point and managed to duck under some big waves, many Hoff impressions were done but were didn't get any of them on camera. Stayed there the whole day but decided against walking back and jumped into a taxi boat, which you still had to walk 15mins to catch at another beach. Along the way a cobra decided to block the path, but luckily Steve Irwin possessed some guy next to us who fetched a stick and battered it out of the way.
We all got changed and headed to a BBQ that was happening at another hostel along the beach, Brid and the Canadian Girl Kelly got completely smashed and ended up dancing along the beach with Brid pulling of some Irish dancing. 10mins later at the crepe place, at Brids request, Kelly was sleeping sitting up so Darren had to take her home, there was a guy wandering round the island with a trolley cart full of deserts, which Brid and I scoffed everyday we were there.
Next day and another 2 hr trek to see some waterfalls that were near by, not very impressive as it was really busy, we walked down onto a beach near by that wasn't very busy but didn't have big waves like the other beach. Bronzed there for a couple of hours before it started raining and we all headed back to the main town on a taxi boat so raid the desert guys trolley again.
Met Darren and Kelly again later on and headed to an all you can eat pizza restaurant with the sole intention on making them pay for advertising it. Didn't really happen as I only managed about 12 slices, still a good effort I thought. Brid and Kelly nipped off for a crepe half way through, shock, I think Brid has finally found someone who like crepes as much as she does, maybe even more.
Couple more beers and we headed off to bed, leaving tomorrow as we are running out of time, we will have to race through Ecuador at this speed.
Next day caught they sail boat back to the mainland and was about to buy some bus tickets when 2 Americans offered us their tickets as they were taking a taxi, after we bought them they came back and offered us space in the taxi for the price of the bus tickets, sold the tickets to some Irish guys who Brid unwittingly ripped off without noticing, they got their money back in the end.
The American couple were on their honeymoon and were headed back to the same part of Rio as us, which was handy. Their were pretty sound although the guy was a bit strange sometimes, when I asked him if he had small office, as he worked for himself, he replied
"No, I have a BIG office"
Alrighty then!!
