Seeing as it was a very, very late night...waking up for the next leg of our tip at 5am proved slightly more taxing than usual...i spent most of the first trip in the back seat trying to get as much sleep as possible...as a result i pretty much dazed my way through the first couple of stops at the Tropic of Capricorn, Barrow Creek Telegraph Station and Wycliff Wells (Australia's UFO Capital)...finally managed to wake up at the Devils Marbles...a pretty impressive arrangement of rocks that have been worn away through time, resembling some very dirty marbles...we stopped off to have lunch and got to know everyone...i decided to head to the front of the bus and got chatting to our tour guide...as usual i informed her of my love of Neighbours...which was when i found out she used to be the Production Manager on Neighbours about 6yrs ago...she wrote scripts and even appeared on two epsiodes...!!! I asked if her if she knew Holly Valance...to which she replied...'yeh me and holly used to talk' - First name basis with Holly Valance...!!! Man, i nearly wet myself...My good, good lord...!!!
Anyways, as I composed myself, we travelled through Tennant Creek...one of my fav stories of Australia was how this town relocated 3km down the road...purely cos their weekly delivery of Alcohol didnt arrive...they went to go investigate and found the truck was overturned...so they decided to move the town to the truck...Genius...!!! We went down to Mary Ann Dam before settling in for the night at Banka Banka Catle Station...we were treated a Cowboy Slideshow, Water Divining and a bit of Whip Cracking
The next day we drove down and I had the honour of naming a Rock...so if you ever drive down the Stuart Highway...just passed Banka Banka and near the Truck Sign saying 80Km...you'll see a rock similar looking to Uluru...its called Chris Rock...awesome...I then took part in a bit of Snake handling in Dunmarra...which was weird to say the least...having a python wrapped around your neck was an experience to say the least...i think its name was Monty
We then headed down to Daly Waters Pub, which is the oldest in the Northern Territory...a really cool place full of passport photo's, cards, flags and various stuff on the walls...i put my photo'of me with no hair and no glasses, right on the bar...and Ed put his SMCC England flag up as well...its got 50 Not Out...cos he celebrated his 50th day drinking consecutive nights...what an alcoholic...!!! We then went to Larrimah, where me and Kenji, the Japanese guy played a bit of guitar and handled snakes...not at the same time...!!! We got a chance to view some bats at Mataranka, before heading down to Katherine where we camped for the night
The next day we went to Katherine Gorge where I hiked to the lookout...bit of a mission indeed...before we made our way into Darwin...Adventure Tours put on a meal for us at the Vic Pub in Darwin...so we had a cool night with the guys...played a few pub games which included me trying to say phrases with marshmellows in my mouth...i couldnt even manage 4...no jokes about me and my big mouth...!!! I did redeem myself tho, as our team came third in the pub quiz...another late night...and another freakily early start for the next leg of the tour
Unfortunately...both Ed and I have had some bad luck with camera's...my display screen broke so I cant see what Im taking pics of...and Ed's memory card wiped put...so we lost all our photo's of this tour...hoping to get a few photos from some of the guys on our tour though
