We spent a lesuirely day in Alice Springs after we arrived in from Cairns...its a pretty small place, but a lot bigger than I had imagined...we pretty much chilled out in our hostel called Annie's Place where I dined on an exotic dinner of Chilli Con Camel...was an experience I have to admit
We got picked up around 11am for the start of our gruelling 10day tour up to Darwin...the first leg of the tour was to Uluru (Ayres Rock)...tho it was a small group, they were are really cool...including Ronald from Holand, Seb from Germany and Kenji from Japan. As usual i made my way to the front of the bus, where I could control the playlist...and chatted to our tourguide Amber...who was really cool (and also suprisingly good at embarrasing herself...so we had a lot in common)
Our first trip was to a Camel farm...Ed took the chance to ride one of the Camels, but I couldnt bring myself to be a hypocrite and ride one less than 12hrs after I ate one of his mates...most of our trip was pure driving, due to the enoromous distances between everything in the middle of Aus...it was tiring but we got to see some cool stuff like 'whirly whirlies'...dust storms that look like tornadoes...which the Aboriginals believe is their child spririt going up to heaven...we made it to our camp late that night, where we had a chance to sleep under the stars in good old fashioned Swags. It was amazing...being able to see Orion's belt then moving across the milky way to the Southern Cross...something I'll never be able to see down Greenford High Street...!!!
We got up at stupid o'clock, getting up in time to watch the sunrise over King's Canyon...we then hiked up Heart Attack Hill (which was aptly named) and then around Kings Canyon for 3hrs. Was such an amazing contrast from the wet tropics of Cairns...but similarly stunning views...we then chilled out by the pool and had some bonding time with a frisbee, before making our way to Kata Tjuta (which looked like Homer Simpson lying on his back) for an awesome sunset...there was a thunderstorm right over it...thunder, lightning, everything...but it cleared in a matter of minuites, which made the sunset all the better as the clouds turned some awesomes colours...the pictures I took were good, but they just didnt do it justice.
We then had another 4.30am start to watch a sunrise over Uluru...this was just as breathtaking...i do love my sunrise/sunsets...we then took a 'Valley of the Winds' walk through Kata Tjuta, where we saw some amazing sights...tho it was sooo hot and I looked stunning in my fly net. We then made our way to Uluru, where we did the 9.2km base walk...sounds weird but as it was weird to walk by it as it just seemed a massive rock...its more impressive from a distance...we then got to watch another Sunset over Uluru from another viewpoint and saw the rock change colour
We were treated to another sunrise over Uluru on our last day of the tour...I was getting addicted to them, before we went on a cultural walk rock the rock and learnt more about the tribe that lived there...was really interesting to hear all the stories they had about the rock and how spiritiual it was
We then made our way back to Alice, where we all joined up for dinner with the group and went out to a club called Bojangles...i got a shout out from my bro, as you can watch live feed from webcams over the internet...he still hasnt told me whether he saw my breakdancing skills...was a pretty messy night, especially seeing as Ed and I had to wake up again early to go onto the next part of the tour to Darwin
