Our Magic Adventure properly started on the 26th and I cant believe how much we've crammed in, in such a small amount of time...
firstly we headed out of Auckland and made a brief photo stop at Mount Eden before heading off to Waitomo. This is where we did our first major activity of Cave Tubing...basically this consisted of us decending down some caves dressed in wetsuits and using rubber rings to wade through muddy water...sounds rubbish but it was so much fun...! It wasnt really an adrenaline activity but it was really eerie and seeing the glowworms light up the caves was really amazing...have got a photo up online, but you couldnt capture them all...they were like stars lighting up the sky...was awesome...!!! Im not great in water, so wading through was a bit of a challenge for me, especially when we had to jump backwards off a small waterfall, without glasses...as you can see from the photo's, im not looking my most photogenic...lol, but neither is Ed, so im alright with that...we also went down a a massive slide in pitch black...i held onto my glasses for dear life but as u can see i managed to survive...all in all it was a pretty cool way to start off the whole trip
Next day we started off in Roturua...where we settled for a bit of lesuirely white water rafting...this worried me slighlty cos i was God awful in blackwater...but white water presented a whole plethora of other challeneges...the girls were equally as scared, so I decided I had to do it...was the best decision ive ever made...the whole experience was so cool...right from kitting up in wetsuits to the quick training and Maori prayer we got at the beginning...it all added to the sense of bewilderment that I wasnt sure whether I was going to come back in one piece...also the fact I was going to be blind again didnt really help matters. The time came for us to get into the water and it was so cool...we went down back-to-back rapids...first one was alright, but the second one i managed to headbutt the back of Kerry's helmet...then after a bit of paddling and psyching ourselves up...we took on a 20ft, Grade 5 waterfall...and capsized...!!! Was amazing, Everyone was tossed out of the boat but I literally held on for dear life, while my feet were trown up in the air...next thing i knew I was under the raft and was in a tiny airpocket...lol. We all managed to get back onto the boat tho, it was such a rush, pretty scary but so cool. We then got told we could get out of the boat and float alongside the raft for a while...little did we know that a rapid was fast approaching and in the hurry to get everyone on board...guess what, they forgot the asian...!!! So while all of them are getting there breath back on board, i'm thinking 'err...does someone wanna help me up before i get battered by rocks'...no was the answer to that...!!! I clung on through the rapids with the knowledge that there was a mssive eel called George ready to hump my leg, while Suzie slumped like a beached whale ontop of Ed's legs and Kerry was trying to figure out why there was one less person on board...lol. Im happy to point out that we all survived...just! and it was an awesome experience...the pictures turned out really really well, especially the one of the boat folding in half over the 20ft waterfall...if that wasnt enough excitement for one day, the girls decided to go Zorbing after that...blimey
Next day we made our way down to Taupo, where we were treated to the Lady Knox Geyser spraying hot steam into the atmosphere, before making our way to the Wai-O-tapu thermal wonderland...it was pretty interesting to see the volcanoes and the wierd colours they produced...but in the same vein it was pretty boring and a bit of a rip off, but there you go. We then watched a few of the guys from our bus do a Bunjy jump which was pretty cool...Ed, Kerry and Suzie were really tempted but they decided to wait. We did end up going to the 'Rock and Ropes' park, where Ed did a trapeze and we both did a Giant 40ft swing...the most fun you can have for $10 i assure you...if u dont included a boneless pork 12inch Subway into that equation. Basically this consisted of climbing up a 40ft pole onto an ominously creaky platform, getting attached to some harnesses and jumping off...in the words of R Kelly, i beleieved i could fly...man it was sooo cool...
We made our way into Wellington the following day after a pretty big night out with our tour group...Me and Suzie wanted to do a Lord of the Rings tour, but it was fully booked up...bit gutted, but it left me with more money to do other adventure stuff, so I guess it wasnt too bad...seriously cant believe how much we crammed in in the space of three days, but thats pretty much how New Zealand will pan out i guess
