The activity filled couple of days continued on the 7th, when we headed into Wanaka...we initially stopped off at Lake Matheson to view the reflective lake...had a pretty decent reflection of (the climeable/unclimable) Mount Cook, where we also got to view my 100th waterfall since departing for my travels...water and gravity combining to form another awesome geological situation...tho this time it had a pretty cool waterfall over it...
We then departed for Wanaka...where the four of us decided to jump out of a fully functioning plane at 15,000ft. It was such a weird feeling, cos I was pretty aprehensive to say the least about white waterrafting...mainly because im rubbish in the water, but i was sooo looking foward to doing this, which is just an insane thought...Ed and I were really looking fowrad to it...Suzie had already done one, so she knew what to expect, but was weary...whereas Kerry was bricking it, bless her. We got picked up at pur hostel and headed towards the Wanaka Airfield, where we were given a brief video intro (soundtrack of Aerosmith: Livin'on the edge...very classy) and had to sign our lives away...then we met our instructors...mine was reassuringly called Chris...and he proceeded to interview my on a handcam, asking me a few confidence inducing questions such as 'do u have any final words to say to your mates back home'...thanks
After I spent a few mintues on the toilet...I got kitted up in what can only be described as a multi-coloured clown suit and swimming hat...very sexy...i also got some goggles to put over my glasses...so i could actually see what i was doing...!!! Time came head into the plane and meet our destiny...unfortunately Suzie and Kerry weren't able to go on our plane, so it was up to Ed and I to go up first...The flight was pretty cool, though we seemed to be flying for ages...about 10mins into the flight, Chris showed me his altitude dial that read 6,000ft...halfway to where we were meant to be jumping out...I wouldve jumped then to be honest, but rising up to 15,000ft was pretty amazing...i even managed to belt out the Lenny Kravitz Classic...fly away...we were way above the clouds by the time Chris started his final saftey checks...it was all a bit surreal, cos by this time I had been on so many flights, it just seemed like another Qantas flight...i was half expecting an in-flight meal...Ed was the first to jump out and by this time the legendary Miller grin was becoming smaller and smaller...and it was only when he was flung out of the plane that I realised what I had put myself into...tho I literally had no time to think, cos 10secs later, Chris and I were perched on the side of the plane ready to bail out...i gave one cheeky wave to the wing camera, then I adopted the bail out position...and that was it...words dont do it justice how amazing the feeling was...it was such an adrenaline rush...and the air was so cold...all i could manage to say was 'this is awesome' but all i could do was try to take in the amazing views of Lake Wanaka and Lake Matheson and the mountain ranges...it was about 60secs of freefall...before the parachute came out and we were loating above the ranges...Chris even gave me the controls, which was rather foolish of him...i was on such a buzz by the time we hit the ground for a fairly smooth landing...Ed had literally just landed and I literally ran up and jumped on him, cos i was so excited...we stayed on for a bit to watch Kerry and Suzie do their dives...at one point all we could hear Kerry screaming her head off, but u knew she was having fun...whereas Suzie's flight was simply 'Fantastic'...seriously was the most amazing thing ive done since Ive been out here...I didnt get any photo's taken, cos it cost too much, but the DVD of mine is so funny, i look like such an idiot
After that we headed back to the hostel, where we were greeted by Katie and Dave, the Canadians we met in Tasmania...last time I saw them was in Melbourne the weekend of the Big Day Out, so it was pretty cool to see them...had a bit of reminiscing that night, before we made our way to Queenstown...Katie and Dave we gonna meet us there, so we were promised one more game of 3 man...!
The next day, we were getting picked up late by the Magic Bus...so we chilled with Katie and Dave and played a few games of pool, before they headed off to do their skydive...we passed Lake Cowdel, where we went to the original Bridge where Bungy jumping was invented...Ed and Suzie were still contemplating on whether to do one, right up until th last minute...and even a few dodgy attempts and fals starts didnt put them off as they finally decided to do one...I was pretty nervous for them and I dont think ive ever seen Ed as scared as he was then...but he did it...unorthodox, but he did it nonetheless...he looked like he was sitting on the toilet when he jumped and I was pretty sure he was gonna do himself some damage, but he survived and the two of them were on such a buzz for the rest of the day...
We ended up staying in Queenstown for a couple of nights...we went to World Bar for both nights, where we drank cocktails from teapots and had a pretty cool couple of nights...the second night, we were joined by Katie and Dave, and we had the funniest game of 3 man since Tasmania...Kid Street Woo...!!! Was a pretty messy night, that culminated in us having one of the best burger's ive ever tasted in my life...the legendary Fergburger...it was my 2nd of the night...my first was after i fasted until 8pm for Good Friday, then forgot i was meant to be vegetarian for the day...lol it was sooo worth it
