Now then everyone - sorry it's been a while!!! Gunna get right up to date AND were not gunna waffle like we have on the last couple of blogs!!! Debs was horrified about the last blog - plus as were in Oz it will cost a fortune if were here for another 6 hour session!
Right we left Bukit Lawang after a quality time and headed back to Medan where we played some pool and went bowling, and then caught a flight to Bali the next day!! The flight took pretty much the full day as we had to stop in Jarkata for a couple of hours on the way!But it was a fun day Chris, eating muffins and drinking Starbucks hot chocolate whilst waiting for our private jet to whisk us away again…could get used to it!
We were really looking forward to heading to the fabled Bali (which we presumed was a remote place with stunning beaches and the like) and so were immensely shocked when we arrived. We landed in Denpasar, the capital, and consulted the Lonely Planet bible and found that Kuta was the party central of Bali and, naturally, headed straight there! Even as we came through the town in the taxi, we were stunned to see all the KFC's, McDonalds & Pizza Huts! We got ourselves some accommodation and headed down to the beach, which was pretty dirty (as it was rainy season) but still absolutely packed……. With AUSSIE'S! The best way to describe Kuta was like Benidorm for Aussie's! The only good thing about the beach was the surfing, which we sat and watched for an hour or so on the day we landed there, was really smart to watch!
So, we were pretty disappointed at first, but nevertheless excited as we knew the nightlife would be good… and we weren't let down!Went to the first bar where we heard some live music, and ended up drinking all night with the singer, and were invited to a town called Seminyak to watch them the following night. Watched our band again (playing Muse, Jamiroquai & Queen) had a few drinks with them after then left them and headed out until 6am - spent a fortune!
The next day we had a rough day, rented a TV & DVD player as it was lashing it down, bought a couple of films and just chilled all day! 'Beowulf' is a good film!
As there was nothing at all to do during the day we literally milled about the streets, looking at all of the Billabong shops, and occasionally going to the beach, weather permitting, but debs always got chased off with people asking for photo's (or just openly standing in front and taking a picture) Don't think the locals had ever seen ginger hair before!!!!! Or was it the white tan…all the aussies are brown!
All in all, even though Kuta was unexpectedly Benidorm, we still had a couple of good nights out, we even managed to meet someone we went camping with in Koh Phi Phi (which was random), we did a massive blog stint, and got the rest of our Indonesia trip planned so we could get to Singapore in time for our flight to Oz!!!
Lots of love Chris & Debs xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
