I will never in my life find the words to describe the moment when i first arrived in manhattan. It was a moment i have been waiting for my whole life yet as soon as it happened, i couldnt believe it was real. After many years of dreaming, months of saving and weeks of anticipation, I finally got to live my dream and experience this city first hand. And oh my gosh it was worth it. We got to our hotel and it was incredible, perfectly centred in the heart of time square. When we checked in, a little bit of persuasivness and negotiation from nanna meant we were able to get a free upgrade to a room that was not only classed as a 'deluxe suite' but offered views of the entire times square and a glimpse of the city skyline. The real magic came when we saw it at night and the lights lit the entire view out the room window, making it seem like daylight, but even at that moment i couldnt help but jump up and down a little bit. We went downstairs and just like id seen on google maps when i got bored and decided to explore new york in class, there is a huge hershey's store right there and M&M's world across the road. yep at this moment im suffering post-chocolate over load. In approx. 1/2 hour i had spent over $50 on chocolate...maybe its a bit sad that my first purchase in new york was chocolate, maybe its not. We decided to sit in the centre area which is an entire section right in the middle of time square that has seating and tables, for lunch and while nanna and poppa ate theres, i wondered down the road and came across ' Baked By Melissa' which is a boutique cupcake shop that sells bite size cupcakes of the most delicious flavours. As its poppas birthday tomorrow, i thought i would get some and a few candles and sneak up to the room to hide them for tomorrow morning before he sees. Looks like its cupcakes for breakfast!
We slowly made our way through the near by streets of the theatre district just to see what was around and of course, there is heaps. I cant wait to really go out and explore new york and see more of the settings ive hung on my wall and seen in movies & shows like gossip girl and New Years Eve. For dinner we went to a place on the corner called the Olive Garden, an italian resturaunt that was very very good!
I havent even spent a full day here and i can already tell that new york is the place for me. Ive always dreamed about 'making it in this city' and living/working here when im older and today just proves to me how much i want that dream to become a reality. It may seem far fetched, but i used to dream about the life im living right now so if i dream just as i did about visiting here, one day these dreams will become reality too! anythings possible right?
*P.S Im currently waiting for my phone to arrive after being found by the cab driver and posted to new york back in DC, i cant believe how lucky i am to be getting a lost phone back now that im in a different state. Man this country is good to me!*
& Happy birthday for tomorrow poppa xxxo
