The volunteer group had arranged to go to Phi Phi for the weekend, leaving on Friday morning. Rich (Ali's boyfriend, my friend from home…they met in Thailand the last time I came here) was arriving into Phuket late Thursday night and had arranged to meet us by the ferry pier in the morning. Ali and I decided we were going to go to the airport and surprise him and spend the night in phuket with him and meet the others in the morning.
We weren't sure which flight he was going to come in on from Bangkok so we went online and narrowed it down to 3 possibilities within a 2 hour time frame and set off to get the bus which we had been told would arrive around 7pm. We sat at the bus stop and A taxi driver told us it would come at 7.30 and then a lady boy told us they stop running after 7pm so we gave it until 7.45 and decided that it wasn't meant to be and took our bags back to the hotel and head out for dinner…just as we were walking up to the bar the bus drove by!!! When we got to the restaurant we were told there would be another one at 8.30 so we went back and got our bags and were happy when a bus did indeed arrive at 8.30.…until we got dropped on a road in the middle of nowhere, it was dark and there weren't any taxi's in sight! We found a police station so went to ask in there but there wasn't anyone in there! Next door was an ambulance office so we knocked on the door…out comes lots of young thai guys who looked like all their Christmases had come at once to find us at their door and proceeded to offer to drive us to the airport….in the ambulance 'for no money'!!! They seemed just a bit too keen so we decided it probably wasn't too safe! We crossed the road and saw a family waiting at a bus stop so went to ask them if they could help get us a taxi. There wasn't any taxi's going by so the man said he would drive us to the airport once his sister had gotten on the bus….he had a baby with him and his family so we felt it was a safer option than the ambulance! We waited for a bit but had no idea when his sisters bus was going to come when luckily out of nowhere a taxi pulled up! We probably got ripped off as he quoted 200 baht for a journey of only 5km but we didn't really have an option!
By the time we got to the airport 2 of the flights we thought he might have come in on had already landed and so we only had the last flight of the night to wait for so we were praying he would be on that one as we had no way of getting in touch with him! We only had to wait about 15 minutes and were getting more and more nervous that he wouldn't be on it….but thankfully he was and was very surprised to see us both there!!
We got a taxi, found a hotel and went out to find somewhere to eat. We ended up in this random restaurant where there were 2 live singers who proceeded to sing songs in English for us and welcoming us on our holiday to Thailand and wishing us a great trip…another very surreal and enjoyable moment!
We were very lucky with the weather for the whole weekend in Phi Phi and I even got a bit sunburned for the first time on my whole trip it was that hot! It was amazing to be back on the island as we had lots of fun the last time I came and its so beautiful. We spent the day on the beach and then headed out for the night. We ended up having to go to hospital as one of the girls trod on and then got bitten by a snake!! It was pretty scary as we went to find a pharmacy and were told by a local 's***, you have to go to the hospital'! We stopped a policeman to ask for directions and when he found out why he put Frankie on the back of his bike and rushed her there with us following on foot! Luckily it was fine and wasn't from a poisonous snake!!
The second day we spent on a different beach which was my favourite beach from the last time I came as the view is stunning and the water really calm, warm and turqouise! Ali got a rubber ring and we spent most of the day in the sea as it was so hot and took lots of funny pictures in the water with my waterproof camera. We also did some shopping…its so hard not to as they have the most beautiful stuff there! I got a new dress to wear that night which was the full moon and we went to a full moon party which was a smaller scale version of the famous full moon parties they have in Koh Phangnan and was lots of fun! We covered ourselves in UV paint, drank buckets (lethal cocktails of thai whiskey, red bull and coke) watched fireshows and drunken people trying to do the limbo under poles that were on fire and trying to jump skipping ropes that were on fire! One of the Thai fire guys had a beautiful body (which had a nice and sweaty from the heat of the fire) and was the most amazing dancer ever and I fell a little bit in love haha! Was an awesome fun night, so worth the 4 hour journey back to Khao Lak including the ferry crossing with a hangover though!
