Today was a great day! We arrived to Venice from our hotel at around 11:00am and had a walking tour. It was great to discover all of the pathways, canals and bridges. The city is very rich in architecture and it is very beautiful to walk around. It looks like a giant post card or a green screen because it is so spectacular!
A notable building is St Marc's basilica, which is a huge church that features mosiac murals made of glass, marble and good. It was stunning to see and crazy to think about how much work went into it all.
Also the main square has a very intricate clock where metal statues move to hammer the bell and moving parts display the time and moon cycle.
After the walking tour, we grabbed some sandwiches. Once we were done lunch, it was time for a gondola ride (an essential part of the Venice experience). The gondolas are beautiful 30ft long black boats, the sun was shining bright, and the water was a clear teal colour, a beautiful sight! We enjoyed the canal views and some prosecco, a sweet champagne.
The views were so beautiful and going through the canals, it was cool to see the seaweed marks from the changing tide and steps of staircases that are submerged underwater in the slowly-sinking city.
After the gondola ride, we went to Harry's bar: where the Bellini was invented. There, I purchased and enjoyed an over priced Bellini. The drink was followed by some more exploring of the maze of walkways and admiring Venetian masks.
For dinner, we went to a restaurant with a heated patio on the grand canal. I had an amazing cannelloni followed by gelato, of course! Then sadly, it was time to leave and head back to our hotel.
It was such a wonderful day, everything that I hoped Venice would be, and more!
