On Thursday morning, we made the short drive to Pisa from Florence. We successfully found the parking lot, where there were many friendly salesmen selling "rolex" watches for the unbelievable price if 20 euros - what a deal! (We later saw some in Venice selling for over 20,000 euro!).
We walked to the piazza Duomo - the home of the leaning tower of Pisa. I was so happy to finally be seeing it… it's such a well-known landmark, so it was definitely on my bucket list. I, like most of the population, was quite familiar with the leaning tower of pisa - it's a tower in Italy that leans. I was surprised to find out that it's a little more than that. The iconic tower is actually part of a church complex that contains a cathedral and baptistery - the tower is the cathedral's bell tower. In Italian architecture, the bell tower is sometimes detached from the main of the church.
But the tower was certainly leaning. We all of course took turns taking the mandatory tourist picture holding the tower. The whole square is nothing but a tourist trap really - there are many souvenir shops around, and the ticket prices to enter the bulidings- especially the tower - are quite expensive. We opted to save time and money by admiring the tower from the outside.
Once we were done in Pisa, we headed East down towards our hotel in Bologna. Along the way, we made a stop for the boys in Maranello: the birthplace of Ferrari. In Maranello, we toured the Ferrari museum which talked about the history of the company and the car designs. It was actually a really cool place. They had pictures of the management team on the wall, and I thought maybe I could be a bigwig like that one day.
After the museum, we made our way to our hotel which was just east of Bologna and called it a night.
