What a week!!
There is no other way to describe this past week other than amazing! I accompanied my Canadian friend, Christine on a Contiki boat cruise through the Croatian islands. It was a week of sunshine, swimming and meeting lots of new friends.
The boat was called the Labrador. It was just a small ship with about twenty cabins that housed the 36 tour participants and crew. There was a large sun-tanning roof at the top, and two floors of above deck cabins. In the interest of saving money, Christine and I booked a below-deck cabin. It ended up working out well because there was air-conditioning down there and the sun didn't wake us up, so we could sleep in.
There were five crew members, including a captain, cook, bartender and two sailors. We all of course tried to make good friends with the bartenders, but that didn't help lower our exorbitant bar tabs.
Together we sailed from Split to Hvar, Korcula, Dubrovnik, Trstenik and Makarska. Every day, we woke up on the sailing boat and had a light breakfast. Mid-morning, the boat would anchor and we would have a nice swim stop in the Adriatic Sea. The water was so clear and beautiful and often very warm. It was quite salty, which was nice because it made floating easier.
After the swim stops we would dock at a new island and explore the small island towns. Korcula was so small you could see one coast from the other, while Dubrovnik was big enough to warrant using public transit. In the evenings, we would enjoy a group dinner followed by a night out! The nightlife on these little islands is quite lively... Especially with this being the kick off to tourist season. We would often be getting back to the boat after sunrise… which caused a bit of stress sometimes because the boat would set sail as early as 5:30am! Luckily, no one ever missed the boat in our group!
In summary, the week was a week of awesome people, lots of sunshine, sea water and great views! I loved my whole week! And the best part: I didn't even get seasick!
