So I got a rude awakening from that women again this morning. She didn't move my legs but made a huge racket. She was getting her friend up for their stop, which wasn't too far away. She's finally gone now and my room is two people less. It's more peaceful now.
So i've been catching up on my blogs since 7 am and were not arriving until 11am. Got a few more hours on this train, but the journey has gone quite fast! It's started to hit me that it's just going to be me and Harriet for the next year and were actually going to have to fend for ourselves. I have faith in us though! It feels weird not having the other 17 volunteers around, and we wont be seeing them until Christmas i think. Thats quite along way away. On the plus side, the views i'm coming across this morning out of the rooms' windows are BEAUTIFUL. Gansu is a beautiful provence, mostly mountainous but so green and bright.
I have no idea what to expect when we arrive. I'm not sure what our host looks like or what they will be wearing. And i believe its a two hour car journey to our projects, but i could be wrong. I actually cant wait to get there now though! It's really quite exciting.
So we arrived at the train station. We were an hour late, but we arrived. It took us ages to get out the station, but when we finally did we found our names on a sheet of paper. So we met one of the teachers from the school. He and his family were lovely but spoke no English. They drove us to Dingxi and gave us some lunch. After lunch we were told to put our luggage in our rooms and then we would meet some of the other teachers and they would show us the school.
The school is HUGE. There are 4 buildings. One for each year group. They have a football field, track, several basketball courts, several ping pong tables and a few badminton tables. It's actually a beautiful looking school. So after a look around, we waited for Anna. She's the one who speaks a little English. The school then took us out for dinner. We met a lot of the teachers, the headmistress and the 'leaders' which we've come to understand are the people who make decisions and so on. The dinner was a hot pot, similar to the one Mike took us to a couple of days ago. It was really nice but they kept feeding us, so we were really full. They also kept toasting to us, which was really funny!
Anyway, after food, we asked to go the supermarket to get some stuff for our rooms. So Mr Wong took us to the HUGE supermarket. Harriet and i need to go to the toilet, so we went to the one in the supermarket. They were squat toilets, but the worst thing was they had no doors, so people could see you having a pee. EW! Worst experience ever! They stunk too! :(
So anyway we got some stuff and went back to our rooms to unpack. This time we got a proper look around our rooms and they were a mess! Everything was broken, there was no head on the shower, it was disgusting, and the kitchen was even worse. Even Anna said we couldn't stay here. So she kindly let us stay at her house, where we were able to shower and sleep. Anna said she would try to sort something out for us tomorrow. It's been a really stressful day trying to communicate with the school about our classes and so on and then our rooms. Were exhausted.
Blogs will be weekley from now on :)
Day 10 in China - got to our project, had a lovely lunch and dinner, nobody speaks English :(
