OMG it's been another long day and without a siesta. It's been go go go....
We had another great day, I've been dying for a swim since our arrival, but it's been so hectic and I hadn't had a chance to go until this morning. I was determined, so got up early, left Carmel asleep and walked to the nearest swimming area in the bay, finally I had the water licking at my feet, OH so nice! glorious in fact!
We visited the old capital city of M'dina which was a city come fortress this is where the Knights of Malta fended off the Turks invasion. The sights of surrounding cities from this vantage point was phenomenal.
We then went to Mosta to visit the famous Church that survived a bomb blast in WW2. The church was full of people seeking shelter during a bomb raid whera a bomb crashed through the dome and did not explode, miraculously hurting no one.
There is a feasta (celebration) at the church over the next few days celebrating Santa Maria, all the streets are decorated with banners and lights, there will be fireworks, marching bands and a procession of the statue of Santa Maria through the streets. There have been 7 church's celebrating this over the last week, we managed to see a procession when we were at Imjar for dinner.
The sunset was spectacular on our way to dinner at Imjar, dinner was at a corner pub which is renowned for serving rabbit which is a popular Maltese traditional dish. We also had the opportunity to try horse meat stew and garden snails. They were quite tasty and I would have them again. You guessed it! Carmel wasn't as adventurous she couldn't bring herself to try them although she enjoyed the rabbit.
We have such an extensive family, dinner was with my uncles wife's nephew & niece! When in Malta everyone wants to meet and catch up. We found this is best done over a meal so as not to eat into our touristy time. Pierre, Martez, Raymond & Joanne were so nice and hospitable it was as if I knew them for years. After dinner we surprised Marie Clare (Martez & Raymond's daughter) with a cake whilst she was at work for her 23rd birthday.
We are off to St. Paul's Bay tomorrow where my mums family came from.
