We arrived at Monza for day one of the Formula 1 without too much trouble we are getting the hang of the Nav b****s' inadequacies and have learned to improvise there is really a knack to it which we are getting proud of. We decided to park the car in the first parking station near the track as we were sick of sitting in the car and especially now in traffic. Well! Little did we know the track was about two and a half kilometre walk away.... Just as well Carmel and I have been in training for the last few weeks this walk was a breeze but the heat and humidity was taking its toll we were dripping wet when we finally got there. We made it on que for the drivers signing and pit walk but officials decided to close the doors due to the amount of people and it being some sort of security risk?? Well this is where I started to loose my s***! I was not impressed organisation was substandard and nothing like Melbourne . I really wanted Mark Webber's signature on the front wing of a Red Bull RB7 I am building and this would be my last opportunity before he retires from F1 and especially after that long walk!
Well we headed back to the car and I'm sure Carmel and I lost a few kilos in sweat!
Well tonight's dinner followed the norm and we were eating late again 11pm.
Day two of the Monza Formula 1 was our first day using Milan's public transport system to get to Monza. I'm sure the locals understand it, but between us we ended up making heads and tails of it, thank God for Carmel she got us off to a good start and in the right direction it's good to have a level head between her and my sense of direction we are all sorted. We caught three trains and one event bus to the track and you wouldn't believe it..... It dropped us about a kilometre and a half from the main entrance we were so impressed! But we were up for a walk which we are now so used to.
Day three of the Formula 1, up early to get to the track before the crowds roll in. Well as for that everyone had the same idea and we were all squashed in a bus. Watching the F1 cars qualify was exiting it was good to see both Aussies near the top at Q2 with Carmel's Alonso in his Ferrari. After Q3 the top 3 standings were Vettel pole, Webber pos 2 and Hulkenberg pos 3 Ricciardo pos 7. We thought getting to the track was bad, well leaving was worse. I now know how a can of sardines feel like sitting in the sun!
Race day; the trip in was almost perfect, except we already got to the first station and I was wondering why I felt lighter today... well it was Carmel's fault because she didn't go through her checklist. Carmel does this for my benefit, just as she does everyday when I leave for work. Yes! I forgot something my camera! Which has been joint to my hip every day for the last 4 weeks. After getting my camera we were both finally ready for racing, the weather was much cooler than previous days and it looked like a chance for rain which held out. We arrived on que just in time for the driver parade well... It definitely isn't like the Melbourne F1 as all the drivers were on the back of a trailer pulled around the track instead of being in their own vehicle driven around the track. The Italian F1 GP is quite different in other aspects as well there was no track entertainment and most of all no promo girls (only the sleazy type at the end of the day trying to get guys to strip joints). It's all and only about the racing oh and their beloved Alonso and his Ferrari!
Well the race start was exiting with a bingle at the first corner otherwise it got off quite smoothly. It was a real buzz for the first few laps when all the cars were so close, just hearing them scream past after each other was a real blast and set the adrenalin for the rest of the days procession. Vettel as usual must of had all the love as his car seemed so much quicker than Webber's. Well the day ended Vettel 1st, Carmel's Alonso 2nd and Aussie Webber 3rd and the other Aussie Daniel Ricciardo held his own Pos 7 so watch out Vittel next year, as he will be the new kid on the block. Overall we had a great day at the races especially with both our drivers hitting the podium.
