Tuesday 19 April
We had a day free to do our own activities, so I updated my blog and sorted the photos. Later in the afternoon we had a cruise down the Okavango River. We saw a lot of hippos. After dinner we turned in early, ready for a 6 am start.
Wednesday 20 April
There are many interesting things to see when driving through the country and stopping at small towns. Locals living in huts and small villages, women carry heavy goods on their heads! There are even huts with tin roof and rocks to hold it down - yeah see rocks do work!
Botswana
We left Namibia and crossed over to Botswana at the Chobe River. Driving through the Chobe National Park we saw lots of elephants, some with babies and one was very protective and came towards the bus, so Adam started up the engine and revved it, she soon backed off!
We arrived at our lodge, Chobe Safari Lodge around 4pm, it is right on the river front. There is lots of wildlife here just walking around or swimming in the river - hippos, crocs and monkeys - you have to be very careful walking around the grounds without a guard.
I know I've said it before but I really am in Africa, have to pinch myself again and again!
After welcome drinks we discussed our activities for tomorrow - early game drive and then a sunset cruise on the Chobe river; more hippos - we hope.
Thursday 21 April
Up at 5:00 am to start our game drive at 6 o'clock for three hours. 'Obee' from Chobe was our game driver, huh ha. I got a fantastic photo of sunrise. Game drive was great, lots of warthogs, impala, elephants and hippos. Saw wild dogs scavenging on a kill. Buffalo were in abundance as well, but missing were the 'big cats' - yet to see a cheetah or leopard, then we would have seen all of the big five plus more! On this drive the elephants crossed right in front of our vehicle - it was a magnificent sight!
For those of you not up with 'the big five' - Buffalo (seen some); Lion (seen some); Rhino (seen some); Elephant (seen lots) and Leopard (seen none).
Chobe National Park has the largest amount of elephant reported - 120,000 in this park.
At 3 pm we went on a cruise down the Chobe river for three hours. Heaps and heaps of elephants showed up for us on the river cruise (bath time), and hippos and some baboons. It was fantastic!
Did I mention that I am having an awesome holiday?
