Hey everyone,
Thought I would (only because Amiee is hehe) write one last blog from Ecuador!
We are currently in Loja, arrived here from Cuenca around 4.30pm and we have until midnight to wait for our next bus to cross the border in to Peru where we will first head to Piura then make our way south...
We have had a surprisingly eventful day considering majority of it has been spent on a bus! This morning we got up earlybird and tried to venture out for breakfast before we caught the bus but actually just ended up doing a nice big walk, seeing lots of closed restaurants and lots of folks heading to church! In the end we made do with some nasty bakery food... we arrived back at our cheapy hostel (I am beginning to wonder if the $5 per night was really that great of a deal!) to find that they had been in our room while we were out... a little weird we thought until we went to leave to go to the bus station to find that we were locked in to the hostel because they must have thought we were going to go without paying!! Unbelievable....
Our busride to Loja was surprisingly tranquil, I am pleased to report! We have wisened up and we have cottoned on to the good seats so we make sure now we always get them :) ooh yeah...!
So we arrive in Loja and we're wandering about the bus terminal minding our own business when the Police come up to us... looking very happy and we're a little confused as to whether we're in trouble or not... turns out they spotted us whiteys and put two and two together and realised we were foreigners... they needed a translator for a strange little Aussie boy that had lost his bag.... it was very bizarre indeed and I have learned that I never want to have to go through the rigmorale of needing a report for insurance! The poor kid has to wait until tomorrow because the police station where you make reports for crimes with no identifiable culprit is not open on Sundays, the one we went to today was for crimes with a culprit! hmmm....
Anyway we had a great time in Cuenca, visited a LOT of museums, couldnt get in to church I was so looking forward to because they were closed straight after mass yesterday... disappointing! Its a lovely city and they have great dessert restaurants... I definitely think I am leaving there a couple kilos heavier... but very happy! :)
Am excited to get to Peru... :D
Love you all xox
