Olá everyone!
So we are in Rio.... I am slowly getting over my initial freak out about being mugged... defintely didnt help when our taxi driver from the bus station didnt know where we had to go and ditched us on the side of the street because he didnt realise that the street continued after a small corner.. grrrr... i wanted to scream at him but thought it wasnt a good idea to draw even more attention to ourselves than our giant packs already did!
The weather hasnt been too kind to us for the past few days but i think today is gonna be a good one :)
last night we went to a concert of one of my favourite music-y people - Manu Chao... i was soooooo stoked to find out he was playing! and tix were pretty cheap :) double-cool!
OHMIGOD! manu chao was A-MAY-ZING!!! i absolutely had such a good time!
it was POURING down when we left our hostel and we were dressed for summer because its still pretty warm and we got there like drowned rats, i am serious, as if we had just showered in our clothes! and my new shoes that i got myself in bs.as. the cutest little red sneaks and they got soaked through and when we ran inside the door of the venue, amiee told me to look down and my lovely (albeit soaking) shoes had foam frothing out the top!!!
it took ages to start but was soooo worth it! the opening act was a samba band - very awesome to watch and the crowd was insane! there were dancers and everything! i think it was one of the samba schools that are prepping for carnaval! then there was another wait for a bit and then manu chao came on! it was soooooooo super awesome!! i was so excited :D really cool to watch and the music was so good!!! i loved it :)
we have just organised our afternoon today - a city tour including GIANT JESUS! we had other plans for the day, but the sun is out so we thought we had better get it in while we can just incase we dont get anothe chance... so we've organised a tour which we thought is probly best because then we know we're safe etc etc and wont feel uncomfortable taking our cameras and things :) i am really quite excited!
tomorrow or sunday (depending on weather) we will go a couple hours north of rio to a seaside town and explore round there for a week or so i think... we are gonna leave our big packs at the hostel here in Rio so i am very excited at the prospect of just travelling wth my day pack :) i wont lie, i am overpacked!!! but who would expect anything less....
well the spanish is coming along, although not so much in brazil - but i am certainly using it as a substitute for portuguese! it is a massive help because otherwise we would be sooooo lost!!! i understand quite a bit and just speak back in spanish... it has made me more motivated to learn portuguese though for sure... just knowing how similar it is and that it wouldnt take that long to learn, i feel like it would be a waste not to learn..
love you all xoxoox
