Sun 5th October
Started the day with a big breakfast, full of carbs and protein setting us up for our WALK/CLIMB up Table Mountain, while booking up our excursion to Bloukrans Bridge for our 216m bungee jump!!! Safe to say that Emily had a s*** breakfast after a bird pooed on her (haha), but managed to cheer her up when I reassured that it is good luck, and that the rope won't snap on us during the bungee :).
So now were making our way to table mountain with Nathan acting as our guide as he has previously done it, excited, full of energy, and at this point, smiling :). We arrive at the bottom of our climb, still smiling, taking pictures, drinking energade and munching on our energy bars...great. NOTHING prepared us for the 33 degree heat we were climbing in, with the smile being wiped off Emily's face in about 15 minutes flat! Maybe hiking up the STEEPEST route (but quickest) on one of the hottest days of the year so far wasn't a good idea. Taking many breaks, leap frogging fellow "mountaineers" as we all seeked limited shelter under shaded trees/rocks. However, upon reaching the shaded valley of the mountain the climb became much more enjoyable, with only our muscles aching (or lack of!), taking in the views behind us and feeling motivated and inspired to continue the hike seeing just how far we had come.
So finally were at the top of the mountain, feeling accomplished, relieved and unfortunately sweaty and probably smelly lol. Headed towards the cafe for a much needed ice lolly to cool us down, frozen strawberry daiquiri and of course, the most delicious and beautiful looking beer I have ever had.
We spent a while walking on the Table, trying not to trip over the cutlery after being pre-warned by Richard Horrocks. Took some pictures before getting the cable car down the mountain (to our relief). Got to the car, sun setting over Cape Town making for great views in the dimming light and decided to head to Nandos, completely acceptable as a traditional South African cuisine and this is where it was born :).
