After another painstakingly long bus journey we arrived in Cairns. This journey was through the day which only made it feel longer. We checked into our hostel NJoy and grabbed a dominoes for dinner as we were pretty exhausted and just wanted some sleep.
After our last busy two weeks on Fraser and sailing around the Whitsundays we decided to take this time to chill out. There are so many different day tours you can do around Cairns but we decided to not book any as we were pretty exhausted but we do not regret this. As we only booked one night at NJoy we decided to book into a private room that only worked out to be a couple of pounds extra. Treating us for our last few nights in Australia. The hostel itself wasn't too bad with places to chill and clean kitchen and a pool (which we never used).
But we did love the lagoon in Cairns - basically a really nice pool next to the beach where we sunbathed and took regular dips to cool down. On our first day we met up with Georgia from the Whitsundays tour who was also in Cairns spending the day chatting, reading and eating ice cream. In the evening we had our last Grilled (AMAZING burgers) for dinner and headed back to Georgia's hostel (Dreamtime) which was a lovely hidden gem for a few drinks and played Bananagrams and heads up.
The second day was also very similar, walking around the shops, and chilling at the lagoon. Jess and Fay from the boat were also arriving in Cairns today and we all planned to meet up for the last time and spend the evening together. The 5 of us heading back to Georgia's for a few drinks and playing more heads up! It was a nice evening and send off for our last evening in Australia :(.
Our flight wasn't until the following day at 11pm so we spent the day doing some jobs and packing. Grabbing a free shuttle bus at 4.30 to the airport, with the idea of watching some Episodes of The Walking Dead to fill our time there. It was quite sad to be leaving australia but we were also so excited for our next adventure in Indonesia and feel like proper backpackers again!
