It will be a hot one in the old town tonight...
So we kinda knew what we were getting into going to Rome for just 24 hours. We did the hop on hop off bus to make sure we got the most out of everything and did manage to get a look at most the major sites. Certainly a city that deserves more than just a few days to really see! We went inside the Coliseum which was really cool and also spent some time at St.Peter's Basilica at the Vatican. We of course ate Pizza for lunch... Now I don't know if it was just the pizzeria we went to (recommended by our hotel) or what I ordered but it was very odd pizza. The crust was super thin and would break when you tried to cut it... Also my toppings (mozzarella, tomatoes and basil) were cold... So the cheese was not melted and the basil was these big fresh leaves. I was a bit sad that I missed my chance at an amazing Italian pizza experience!
Dinner made up for it though! Before we left Tracy gave me an envelope with what I thought were her recommendations for Rome restaurants.. It was but it also included a lovely note and Euro's to buy dinner! We are just behind the Pantheon and had fresh grilled Calamarie and pasta. I had homemade gnocchi and Jas had spaghetti carbonara.
We walked through the square next door and ate some gelato and just sat and looked at everything all lit up... These enormous monuments and fountains and statues all lit up. It's a pretty magical place.
We swung by the coliseum on the way back to the Hotel to see that all lit up as well. Also the street was full of people watching the World Cup on big projectors... Just sitting near this ancient thing watching soccer... No big deal! So crazy in Europe how the cities are among these crazy artifacts.
Rome was also CRAZY hot! We were both sooo sweaty and gross and essentially the whole city smelled likes hot sweaty people.
