Charly's Travel Journal
This morning we went to visit a Pre-Inca cemetry in Nazca desert, where they still have some of the preserved mummies. It was a bit creepy some of it,but very interesting. The bodies for instance were always buried in the foetal position facing the east, and were preserved using chilli!
Next we were driven to a ceramics workshop where we saw a woman making some of their traditional containers. They get a polished finish by using the grease from their nose!!We also saw where they extract gold and other precious stones from rocks that are mined locally.
Now that the weather was clearer we were able to go catch our little plane to fly over the Nazca lines. We were in a little 4-seater and it was a little bumpy, but it was fanatastic to see the lines! It was surreal to see pictures of parrots and spiders etc drawn into the sand....
We had a free afternoon at the hotel to relax by the pool in the sun,and then went into town for a delicious dinner before ctaching our night bus to Arequipa. Our coach was very nice-nicer than even the planes i{ve been on long haul flights for. We had our own cabin, leather armchairs that reclined almost the whole way back, and breakfast with a film in the morning-very nice indeed.
Lots of love xxxxxxxx
