Sydney! Our final destination in Australia. We finally arrived after a 12 hour drive at 12.30 at night so spent most of the next morning in bed, bearing in mind this is the first time we have slept past 9am...only to be told by a cheeky German guy that we sleep a lot. This guy then proceeded to sleep all through the day...what a numpty!
We started our afternoon by going to look at what Sydney is famous for. The Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. When we walked around the corner I was expecting to see this giant massive Opera House but in comparison to what I thought it was tiny. I think it may have been the angle at which we saw it but as time went by I began to appreciate how impressive it was. We took a walk across the Harbour bridge as this is free in comparison to the walk over it which would have costed us $179 each! What a joke! It still gave us brilliant views over the city and they really were brilliant views. Sydney is another of Australia's laid back cities that have so much more to them than just the city.
The following day we travelled the couple of hours to go and see Palm Beach where Home and Away is shot as we heard it was a great beach and we have been to so many places where films/TV shows have been made we had to complete the set! It was in fact a really nice beach and it was in a really nice suburban area with flashy houses and expensive looking cars. It was pretty cool to get the picture outside the surf club and walking along the top of the beach. It was really hot here and we decided to head on to Bondi Beach to check out what all the fuss is about. By the time we got there it had started to get a little cooler so there was no sunbathing but it was a pretty nice beach it has to be said. It was bigger than I thought and had really white sand which felt weird as it was only half an hour away from the center of the city.
We decided to do the cliff walk and headed along to Tamarama Beach where we put 20cent in the BBQ and cooked us some sausage sandwiches! There we were in Sydney, Australia, having our very own Barbie on the beach. All that was missing was the shrimps and the tinnys! Well it drizzle for a few minutes so we headed back to the centre to walk around the city at night before we had to head off to the next country the following day.
Australia has been a country that has had a lot of ups and downs. We didn't like every place we went to but when a country is that big you can't really expect to. It does seem to have everything though. The outback (which I loved), the GBR, the big cities, the beautiful beaches, the rain and floods, the sun, the wildlife. My favourite parts were definitely the three day trip to Uluru, that will be something I will never forget. I also loved snorkelling with all the beautiful fish which I never thought I would. Victoria was amazing, I really like it there and I thought Sydney was great. The least favourite parts would have to be Cairns, I didn't really like that city. I also now know that I don't like sailing. We didn't really stay in places for very long as we wanted to see as much as we could and I really wish we could have done some of the West and South Australia. There were places that we would have stayed longer at and places we wish we hadn't been in for so long but all in all Australia is an amazing country, another which I'm sure I shall return to one day!
