Week 6: Vietnam (Hanoi) Day 6
And relaxxxxxx! Today we had promised ourselves a chilled day as we were beginning to look and feel like zombies. We had a lay in and then decided to go for a stroll to the market round the corner from our hostel. The market is held inside and is full of everything you could ever need, parts of it was touristy and the rest was like a local market. We both managed to do a bit of bartering and come away with some bargains. After we wanted to check out silk street (we have worked out that in Hanoi every street sells a certain product and the whole street is full of shops selling it, quite bizarre really). Silk street was pretty cool, had a few tailors also but was a bit pricy.
We had found a nice little bakery down the road from our hostel so we went and got supplies for lunch and had a feast in our room. Charlotte was pleased as they had banana cake :). After a relaxed afternoon, we were feeling more human. We had noticed that there was a street restaurant that seemed to be very busy every time we walked past so we went and had dinner there. It didn't disappoint! We had chicken and sweet corn soup, salted roasted king prawns ( they were incredible so we ended up ordering more) and some Vietnamese noodles although we weren't sure what was in them but the meal was very nice!
When we came back from dinner our Laundry was done so we went upstairs and checked it. Char soon realised that some of her washing was missing. Her favourite dress was gone, she was not impressed! So she went back downstairs to get some answers. After a long to-do with the receptionist no one knew where the dress was. To prove that there was washing missing we weighed the bag and it had lost nearly a kilo! The man on reception then tried to say that it weighed less because it was clean ha! I also found a pair of knickers in my bag that didn't belong to myself or Charlotte so they had clearly got the washing mixed up, thats Asia for you! Anyway they gave Charlotte some money as compensation and said that if they found the dress they would post it home for her (AS IF). Not a very chilled ending to our relaxed day!
