Week 5- Vietnam (Hoi An) Day 6
Today was shopping day, yay! First we stocked up on a huge breakfast, fried eggs with fresh warm baguettes, fruit platter and banana pancakes with tea or coffee, absolutely amazing! We have heard so much about Hoi An and the tailors so we were super excited to check it out. One of the owners older brother owns a tailors so she recommended us to try his shop Nhat Vy. We checked it out on trip advisor and it does have very good reviews. We had a few ideas in mind what we wanted to get made. A couple of the owners took us by motorbike to the tailors. We sat down got the catalogues out and started looking for some inspiration! With a few designs in mind it was time to measure up. With our orders placed we decided to check out the leather shop next door....and we ordered more, oooops :) thankfully they can post it home.
After a busy morning shopping we went to check out Hoi An's old town which was by the river. The old town is beautiful and very picturesque. The town is full of shops, tailors, restaurants, cafés and there was a market too. After a busy morning our tummies were rumbling, char spotted a street food stall that was doing BBQ chicken wraps so we decided to check it out. The lady BBQ'd the chicken then you made the wraps yourself. First off all you had a sheet of rice paper, them there was a layer of sticky white paper with a similar texture of dumpling, there was salad then the chicken then roll and dip in peanut sauce. Was very tasty and only cost around 30p per wrap! The owner of the tailor then took us back to the home stay where there was bicycles waiting for us!
At dinner time we headed back into the old town on our bikes for dinner. We found a cute little restaurant that was doing 2 for 1 cocktails, excellent! Charlotte was straight on the strawberry mojitos and I had a mango daiquiri. I decided to try a set menu that had a few of Hoi An's specialities for dinner. This included white rose which is a Vietnamese dumpling with meat inside, Vietnamese spring rolls, rice with squid and a dish called 'cao lau' which is noodles made with pork and greens. Char had sweet and sour shrimp soup and spring rolls, both our meals were delicious. We both defiantly would say that Hoi An has been the best for food so far! After that meal we definitely needed the cycle back, we are both very chuffed with how our navigation skills are coming along. It was rather interesting cycling home in the dark!
About an hour or so once we had been back at the home stay there was a knock on our door and the owners husband (really should get their names) bought us pudding, which was 'sweet soup' which is a soup that is made with coconut and sweet corn and it is soo good! They are making it so hard for us to leave on Saturday! We love it here!!!
