Week 17- Australia (Wilsons Prom) Day 3
We got up early, made pancakes to warm us up, had a pee in the bush and we were back on our way! It was SO cold when we got up, even the front windscreen had frozen over. Although, we got speaking to a few surfers in the car park and they must have been like ice cubes!!
It took us about 3 hours in total to get to Wilson's Prom and it was a very scenic drive, although, it was really foggy when we first set off. Once we arrived to the national park there was one big road that went all the way through and at the end was a campsite.. That was it!! We saw a few kangaroos as we drove through and kept stopping every 5 minutes to take photos because it was just an insane view. We saw a sign to squeaky beach which we had been recommended to go to so we headed down there. It was a beautiful beach but we were a little disappointed because the sand didn't seem to squeak (that's where it got it's name). At a paddle in the very cold sea we got back in the camper to find the campsite.
We eventually came to the campsite at the end of the very long road! We were being a bit naughty and didn't want to pay to camp for the night (we are travellers after all) so we hid in the corner furthest away from the entrance! We made some lunch out the back of the camper but we started to get surrounded by birds and I mean some of them had huge beaks. So you can imagine Gemma was hiding in the camper (she has a phobia of birds).
After a very quick lunch we decided to go on a walk along the broad walk. It was so peaceful and quiet. Just as we started our walk we spotted a huge wombat, they are such amazing animals! I think they are my new favourite. We walked through the trees and along tidal river. We saw more wombats and deers. We crossed the river and came across a sign saying tidal river viewpoint 2.6km so we thought this would be a good idea. It was all up hill but was definitely worth it when we got to the very top. We could see all over the beautiful beaches and we were able to see for miles!! Me and Gem love a walk and view!
By the time we got down we were starving, we had planned to make baked beans and mash! We started the peel the potatoes and set up our little camp kitchen but as you can imagine the birds all appeared again. This time there were loads and they were actually going for us. So we got scared and ran inside the amenity block.. We ended up cooking in there which was quite funny! We had showers to warm us up before we headed into the camper for the night. We could hear so many animals and birds outside we were scared to go out in the dark haha. I went to the toilet in the night and when I came back there was a deer in the entrance so I couldn't get out!! All fun and games.
