Week 17- Australia (Great Ocean Road- Lorne) Day 1
We got up at 8am and headed to the kitchen area to make ourselves breakfast. After we had showers to freshen (and warm) up then packed the campervan up ready to move on. We both had pretty good sleeps for our first night in the camper, although, we did have our sleeping bags along with 3 thick duvets so we were snug as a bug!
We headed straight to the Twelve Apostles, they were incredible. What a beautiful site. They were only about 5 minutes from our campsite. We walked down to the viewing platform, and all that you could hear was the crashing of the waves, it was so relaxing. You can't see all twelve apostles at once but it was still an amazing view. We spent awhile taking in the scenery and obviously took lots of photos then we headed back to the camper to start our drive along the Great Ocean Road. We didn't really know where we were going to end up tonight so we decided to see where we ended up!
First of all we drove to Cape Otlay, this is a lovely little place on the coast. To get there we went down a windy road and I'm sure a few people saw koalas because they were all taking pictures of the tree as we drove past but we missed it :-( Once we arrived we were both starving so we made so lunch in the back of the camper before heading out to explore. We had to pay $19.50 each to get in but we wondered around the coastline and also went up into the lighthouse, it was such a good view! Cape Otlay is the most southern point of the coast! We bought a hot chocolate to warm us up while we walked along (we also wanted the cups because they were missing from our campervan utensils haha).
Apollo Bay was our next stop, this is a seaside village. It is very small and cute but not much going on. We think it would be a lot better in the summer when the sun is out and people can get on the beach. Nevertheless, we still had a wonder down the beach and saw the port where all the boats were docked. We popped into the supermarket to get some gravy for our sausage and mash tonight!!
Our final stop was Lorne and this is where we are staying for the night. We have covered a lot of miles today and Gemma has done really well with the driving. We ended up paying for another campsite because we looked for a free camping area and they were either closed or in the middle of nowhere and looked a bit creepy. When we arrived at the campsite it was just still light. We managed to sort out the back and turn it into our bed before it got dark. Although, we did end up making our sausage and mash in the dark!!
