Week 9- Thailand (Pai) Day 1
Cheeky little lay in today, well deserved rest day! First things first... Breakie. We had seen a little cafe that does a full English breakfast with hash browns (just for Charlotte) so we ate there. Oh my it was incredible and the toast was brown bread, I think that's the first time I've eaten brown bread in about 2 months, heaven! Charlotte had found a pool nearby so we decided to check that out today. It was on the other side of the walking street to us, took about 30 mins to walk there so by the time we arrived we was well and truly ready for a dip. Payed 60 baht to get in (£1.20) and got given a matt. We found a brolly chucked our stuff underneath then jumped right in. The pool was reasonably cold which was a bonus. We sunbathed there for a few hours then went and got ready for sunset at the Pai Canyon.
The Pai canyon was pretty big and spectacular. To get into the canyon itself you had to cross a small and not so wide rock with a sheer drop either side, to get over that was an achievement in itself. I think Katy developed a fear of heights in about 2 seconds after seeing that. Then you had to do a little bit of climbing and walking the you were in the main part of the canyon sort of. As if Katy wasn't jittery enough char kept walking very close to the edge, making me and Katy very nervous. We walked to the end of another path of the canyon and got some pretty cool photos.
Charlotte was being Dora the explorer so she went off down another path whilst me and Katy stood there and watched (although we couldn't watch for the majority of it). After that we sat down and waited for sunset. Just as the sun was setting in between 2 mountains it went behind a cloud (we haven't really had much luck with sunsets). Then just as it was about to set the sun came out again for a bit, horah! After that it was dinner time, we had seen quite a few food stalls down the walking street, one of which that caught our eye was a sweet potato stall. The lady mashes the sweet potato a little then covers it in whatever toppings you want. Delish! I had beans and cheese on mine, but she also puts loads of salad stuff on too. Charlotte had avocado, olives and cheese on hers and Katy had the same minus the olives! Very filling I couldn't eat anymore it Katy also had a big corn on the cob with butter too which looked and smelt very nice. We had a little wander and came across a little store with Banana cake on so Charlotte couldn't resist and she bought some, I also spotted mango crumble so I got some of that! Katy got a chocolate cookie. We went to a little cafe on the way home for drinks. The girls couldn't squeeze in their desserts tonight, I did! There is a curfew in Thailand at the moment so all the stall, bars etc close before 10pm so off to bed we went!
