Week 8- Thailand (Maehongson) Day 6
Today we had breakfast at the hotel then headed out for the day. We got a tuk tuk to take us to the famous sites in Mae Hong Son. We went to the fish caves first (thankfully you didn't have to walk through them otherwise I would have had a heart attack, the fish were HUGE and very hungry). The actual caves themselves are very small but pretty nether the less. We bought some fish food and fed them along the way. There was quite a big lake which went into some of the caves. Charlotte was very excited about feeding the fish.
We then went to the Mud Spa, unfortunately the pools were closed for cleaning so we just had a mud face mask. It was hilarious. They make you wash your face first then you put a hair net on. They then lay you down and apply the mud to your face. The mud was freezing so it felt quite nice. The mud stays on for 15 minutes and as the mud starts to dry you actually can't move your face so trying to smile/talk is funny. You then wash the mud off and apply a lotion and your face feels as smooth as silk!
Our tuk tuk driver then had a little surprise for us, he took us through a village and down some windy quiet roads we did wonder where he was taking us but we ended up at a temple. The temple was quite pretty but to reach it you have to go across a old bamboo bridge thankfully it wasn't too high off the ground and we walked fast across the bit that had water underneath. It was creaking quite a lot and we screamed at a few points the tuk tuk driver thought it was highly entertaining! Then we had to climb a few wooden stairs by the time we got to the temple we were out of breath. There was some guys painting the Buddha whilst we were there but the views from the top were pretty cool! The walk back wasn't quite as daunting but we was all relieved at the end to be standing on the floor.
After lunch we headed back to the room for a bit to chill out then we got our trekking boots on to go to the View point where there is a temple and you get some really spectacular views over Mae Hong Son and Burma. We all ready to go when the lady at our hotel 'Nuny' asked where we were off to. She then said she would take us a bit later ready for sunset. Well when we got there they drove us right to the top (it would have been a bit of a long trek up hill) and said they would come and pick us up after. The view from the top was amazing! We had a little walk round and found a little cafe where we ordered a drink and waited for the sunset. All of a sudden the winds picked up and the sky turned grey then the heavens opened! We were a bit worried that there wouldn't be a sunset if the rain didn't stop. Thankfully it did and the sun appeared between 2 mountains it looked beautiful, it was still a little misty which I think made it look better!
It was then dinner time and I really fancied Pizza so Nuny took us to a pizzeria and we had a little disco on the way! The pizza was gooooooddddd! And they had Tiramisu so obviously I couldn't resist. With very content and full bellies we headed back. We turned on the TV and all the channels had been taken over by a military speech. Katy looked at the news and we discovered that the army had taken over the Thai government! Haha we didn't even know any of this was happening, we only knew about the riots. We also found out that there is a curfew in place and everyone has to be indoors from 10pm until 5am every night for the foreseeable future! Good job we aren't raving party animals!
