Week 8- Thailand (Chiang Mai) Day 4
Brad had to get up and leave at 4am, which was really horrible :-( I didn't want him to leave. The past 10 days have gone really quickly, although, we have had an incredible time. So after getting up with Brad I then went back to sleep for a few hours before we had to get up for our flight to Chiang Mai. We were all really excited about Chiang Mai as we are hoping it's going to be quite different to everywhere else in Thailand. We went downstairs and checked out of the amazing hotel. We decided to have one last bit of luxury before diving back into backpacker life by having the breakfast buffet. It might have been expensive but my god it was worth it, it soon lifted my mood again! They literally had everything from a full fry up, pastries, cereal, pancakes the lot! So we demolished about 2 platefuls each before getting the cab to the airport.
Our flight went smoothly and we managed to booked a few more nights accommodation while in the departure lounge which was handy! Once we arrived in Chiang Mai we got a cab to the hostel, although, the driver got quite lost! The room was fan only so we were praying we were going to get some sleep as the room was really hot. We decided to have a little adventure out and went for a walk around the old town. We could tell straight away we are going to love Chiang Mai. The streets were really cute with lots of little market stalls and restaurants. We managed to book our bus to Maehongson despite people telling us not to bother going there. It's not a touristy place at all, but that's what we were most excited about! We also booked a 3 day trek into the jungle including elephant riding, white water rafting, staying with the hill tribe village, waterfalls and bamboo rafting. The 3 days cost us a grand total of £24 each including everything apart from drinks.. I call that a bargain.
We then went back to the hostel and planned a bit more of our trip. By this point we were exhausted (particularly me, I felt like exhaustion had hit me around the face)! We decided to go for dinner locally so just popped around the corner. We then headed straight to bed and slept like babies!
