Week 10- Laos (Luang Probang) Day 2
We got to sleep in today to recover from our night bus journey. We woke up in time for breakfast at the guesthouse. The breakfast was really good and it only cost $2!
After breakfast we got picked up and take to the Kuang Si waterfalls, the journey in the mini van was a bit windy and bumpy, Katy and Charlotte didn't enjoy the ride there, and was nearly sick. I think the ride there was worth it once we actually reached the waterfalls it was beautiful! There was a bear sanctuary when you first walked in, at first I was a bit skeptical but then I read some of the bears stories about how they rescued and why. The Chinese poach them and use their bile for medicine. The bears seemed to be quite happy in their sanctuary. We walked up to the waterfall the water was so blue and clear. We walked quite a way up the waterfall but didn't go right to the top as I think it involved climbing and our legs were not fully recovered from our trek. We headed back down and had a swim in the first swimming area. The waterfalls quite well known for having fish in the water that give you a free fish spa so I was quite wary getting in. I did it and I only got nibbled once so wasn't too bad. The water was cold and refreshing exactly what we needed in the midday heat. We then went to another swimming area which was quieter. Still a few fishes in there but I still went in again. This pool was 12ft deep!
After a couple of hours at the waterfall we headed back to town. We went into Joma Bakery for lunch, which the guy that owns our guesthouse had recommended. I had a salmon and cream cheese bagel and the biggest slab of Apple pie you have ever seen, was amazeballs. The girls had chilli soup which apparently tasted just like spag Bol with garlic bread. We collected our laundry on the way through we were all quite excited to have fresh clothes especially after the trek, the laundry smelt good and there wad nothing missing, bonus!
We went back to freshen up then went to watch the sunset at the view point on the Main Street. We had to walk 350 steps to reach the top it was still very hot so we were dripping wet with sweat when we got to the top but the view was amazing at the top, you could see over the whole of Luang Probang. We waited for the sun to set, thankfully there wasn't many clouds about so it was quite a pretty sunset. As we had lunch quite late we wasn't ready for dinner so we had another stroll down the night market and booked a trip to the caves for tomorrow. We decided to try street food tonight, we had seen buffets for 10,000 kip (about 75p). We found a whole side street full of them so we decided to give it a try. Wasn't the best street food we had tried and we didn't know what the majority of the food was that we was eating! Good job we had a biggish lunch. We stopped on the way back at a cake stall and we all had a chocolate brownie which looked incredible but again was a bit of a let down! Not sure we will be trying anymore street food in Luang Probang.
