Week 9- (Laos) Luang Probang Day 7
Today was the dreaded night bus day! We went to the bakery to stock up on goodies for the journey. We were picked up at 10am and it was about a 5 hour drive to the border, but being on Asia they do love a few service breaks so we stopped several times one of which was to see a temple in Chiang Rai. The temple was pretty but we weren't told anything about it really so we just took a few pictures then got onto the bus.
Our last stop was at a hotel where the guys that were doing the 3 day 2 night slow boat trip stayed and us 3 jumped on another bus. We got given dinner which didn't look appetising at all, was a scrabbled egg baguette with salad, bananas and water. Not very impressed so we stopped at a seven eleven on the way to the border to get some more goodies and the dinner went straight in the bin. Once we reached the Thai border we got stamped out of Thailand and sorted our visa for Laos. Was a simple process, phew! We then got on another bus to drive us over the river and to take us to the bus station where we got our sleeper bus.
The beds on the bus fully reclined and there was room to stretch out a little bit. Me and Katy was sharing and Charlotte had her fingers crossed that she would have her top bunk to herself. Someone came to join her but then there was spare seats at the back so he moved so she was well happy. Little did we know the journey was going to be a very bumpy and windy ride! Myself and Katy were pretty snug in our 'double' bed so we didn't move to much and managed to have some broken sleep but Char said she was sliding all over the show so she didn't get very much sleep (very tired and a little grumpy when we arrived ;( at 5am in the morning). It was like off roading in a double decker bus! We jumped in a tuk to take us to our guesthouse. We saw a few monks on the way coming back from the Alms ceremony which was quite cool. Once we arrived we were warmly greeted by the owner, I think we are going to like a Luang Probang :).
