Week 13- Indonesia (Bali- Ubud) Day 6
We got up early so we could check out and find somewhere else to stay as we didn't want to stay here another night! The breakfast was vile... Was a mini frankfurter sausage thing in batter, a pancake served with ice cream topping and a blueberry and chocolate toastie which was absolutely disgusting! Thankfully there was some melon on the side and we had our biscuits! We then waited ages for them to get ready to take us to the centre and we still had little wifi to look for somewhere to stay tonight. Thankfully Brad had found us a really nice hotel to stay in and treated us (Thanks Brad :)). So when they eventually dropped us back into the centre which was like a 40 minute drive away, we managed to find the new hotel easily and checked in. We booked out boat to the Gili Islands with the hotel and we managed to find a place to stay too. We are getting so good at taking no nonsense, we managed to cut the boat price in half!
After a stressful night everything was finally sorted again and relax..... Now off to do some sight seeing. First up was the Monkey Forest which was a 10 minute walk away for our hotel. Monkey forest was soo cool, monkeys everywhere! They were friendly monkeys too. We were both a bit dubious at first and I had told Charlotte that she wasn't allowed to feed them or have a photo done as the other monkeys we had come across hadn't been too friendly. The temples inside the forest were pretty cool too. There were keepers all around the forest with food for the monkeys asking if people wanted to have photos done. The first few times of getting asked me and Charlotte had declined as we still a little nervous and we didn't want to pay. But after watching a few people have photos we realised that the monkeys weren't so bad and we didn't have to pay. So Charlotte went first and she fed a monkey then it was my go. They are quite cute and they do take the food out your hand quite gently. Then Charlotte wanted a picture done, I was still refusing. So the keeper gave Charlotte some food and got the monkey to climb up her body for a picture. After seeing that I realised it can't be so bad so I had one :) he/she sat on my arm for quite a while thankfully it was only a baby!
After an exciting morning we decided to go and have some lunch. We went to a restaurant that the hotel had recommended for traditional Indonesian food, it was called Bebek Bengil (Dirty Duck). It was quite a cool restaurant you sit on the floor of these raised pod things. The food was amazing too! It was called Nasi Campur Bebek (crispy duck with various Indonesian sides such as corn fritas, vegetables, fried nuts, rice and crackers. Was yummy! We then went to ARMA art gallery which is a famous art gallery in Ubud (Ubud is a very arty place). This was quite cool walking around the gallery and we found out that the children aren't given names here until they are 3 months old when the family have a ceremony and give the child their name. We found this very odd!
We then headed back and made the most of our nice hotel. We enjoyed the rest of the afternoon round by the pool before heading to the night market where we picked up a few bits. Charlotte got hassled by this lady to buy a scarf that Charlotte wanted but Char was too stubborn to give in even after quartering the price! After a walk around we headed back, picked up a snack on the way back ready for a chilled night at the hotel. Char couldn't wait to have a bath :)
