Week 13- Indonesia (Bali-Ubud) Day 5
Today we were up really early (again) as we need to get the train and bus back to the airport. Our plane wasn't until midday but we wanted to leave plenty of time. We had some toast and a cuppa tea then left our hostel around 7am. It was really smooth getting to the airport, we are becoming pros at public transport abroad especially with our rucksacks! As we were leaving the bus station I had a little bit of wifi and I received a message from Sarah, it turned out her and Matt were at the airport waiting for their connection flight back to London. What are the chances... I didn't have enough signal to respond so once we got to the airport we quickly found some wifi hoping we hadn't missed them.
The one time we want to get through check in and security quickly there were HUGE queues. We thought there was no way we would catch them as their plane was departing in 20 minutes. However, when we went through their plane had been delayed and they were still there!! It was so good to catch up and lovely to see them. There plane was delayed quite a while so the airport staff allowed them out the departure lounge to see us. We spent about an hour cracking up laughing at each others travelling stories. You forget how mental Asia is until you start speaking to others! We said our goodbyes and headed off in our different directions.
The flight went smoothly, it was a much bigger plane than usual it had 10 seats in a row! It took about 2 and a half hours and we even ate plane food (desperate times) although it wasn't too bad. Once we arrived in Bali we had to spend ages queuing for our visas. This took at least an hour and we were pretty exhausted by this point. Once we finally got out the airport we then spent a while arguing with cab drivers about the price, by this point we was not in the mood! We managed to barter it down but he was dropping us at Ubud centre rather than our hostel.. we rang our hostel who agreed to pick us up from the centre and bring us back.
By the time we got to the centre it was already 6pm and we waited around half an hour for the hostel staff. It got to the point where we were going to try and ring them but they suddenly appeared. The hostel was a lot further out from the centre than it said on the website and when we arrived we were the only people staying.. This is never a good sign.
The staff seemed nice but the hostel was very run down. It had the potential to be a beautiful retreat but it clearly hadn't had any maintenance in a while. The room seemed really damp and was quite dirty, the air con didn't really work, the wifi was non existent and there was no hot water no to mention the lock was a piece of wood! You can imagine what we were like after the day we had had. We had to laugh or we would have probably burst into tears. We were starving so ordered some food at the hostel, it was ridiculously cheap but took forever and when it arrived it was cold!
We managed to get slight internet at one point but we wish we didn't... I had an email from the Gilli hostel and all that it said was we are closing down and your reservation is cancelled. They had also organised our boat for us so we were screwed! We didn't even want to stay there tonight but we came to the conclusion that there wasn't anything we could do tonight so we would try and get some sleep and sort it all out in the morning with a fresh head!
