Week 3- Cambodia (Siem Reap)- Day 5
Charlottes mission today was to go and get her legs waxed! Let's say she wasn't too impressed after! She had her eyebrows and half leg waxed for £6! Obviously waxing in Cambodia is very different to waxing at home. They use wax out of a tub which looks a it like honey then the use bandage like material to pull the hairs out. All in all took the lady about an hour and it was a terrible job! Never again. We had a horse ride booked for the afternoon for 4 hours which we were both looking forward to as you ride through villages and see temples. A tuk tuk driver picked us up from the hotel and took us to the ranch. The ranch was very nice and looked well kept. We got given our hats and our horses were bought over to us, mine was called Ollie and Charlottes was called Ohao. It was just us 2 and the guide for the ride. So we set off, Charlotte was doing well considering she isn't a very experienced rider. Around 5 minutes into the trek her horse swung round and tried to bite my horse which then freaked my horse out too! Charlotte handled it ok and decided to carry on. Another few minutes passed and her horse did it again, this time Charlotte was obviously quite scared so we decided we didn't want to continue. I asked the guide if the horses went out together usually and he said "oh sometimes Ohao doesn't want to go out and he plays up and tries to attack other horses, when a guide rides him he doesn't do it but when tourists ride him he sometimes does it". Both very annoyed as they knew that Charlotte wasn't a very experienced rider! We both got off and waited for someone to pick us up! We both ended up getting a backy on a motorbike which was a bit of a surreal experience itself, luckily the ranch wasn't very far away! The people at the ranch were very apologetic and gave us a full refund, we were both very disappointed that it didn't turn out as planned! Once back at the hostel we decided to head down to the pool and chill for a bit before we headed out to the night market-me and char love a market ;). Well we certainly wasn't disappointed with this one! It was massive and it was lit up with loads of lights, there was a bar in the middle too. It was also Cambodian New Year, this would be the third new year me and char have seen this year! So there was a big concert going on also. We both picked up a few bargains at the market :) all this shopping is hard work so we decided to find somewhere to eat. We found a cool restaurant near Pub street which had a BBQ outside. We were delighted that they had baked potatoes ha! Charlotte tried Fresh River fish and a chicken kebab from the BBQ and I tried cat fish Amok, which is a Cambodian curry. It was delicious and one of my favourite dishes so far. For dessert we tried Khmer lien cake, which were little cakes that looked like muffins but they had a dumpling like texture and was served with coconut milk, they weren't bad! After having a wander down Pub street and seeing some of the concerts we called it a night :)
