Week 4- Cambodia (Phnom Penh) Day 1
So today we arrived into Phnom Penh very early in the morning. It was about 6am when the bus reached the deport. Our first night bus experience was actually pretty successful. The beds were quite comfy and the wifi worked so we couldn't really complain. We both got a fair bit of sleep, although, it was extremely bumpy at some points. At one point I woke up and it was so bumpy and slow I actually thought we were actually breaking down!! When we arrived in Phnom Penh we got straight in a tuk tuk to our hostel- One Stop. There was a bit of confusion when we got there because they didn't have us down through booking.com but we sorted it in the end! We were in a dorm room but when we first arrived we were the only ones in it. It was a lot more spacious than the other dorms we had stayed in which was nice.
We managed to catch a couple of hours more sleep before heading out for breakfast. We have both agreed Phnom Penh is definitely the most smelliest place we have visited yet! We had a quite chilled out day as we were tired from the night bus but we managed to organise Vietnam and booked 2 flights after much stress with trains! It worked out just as cheap to fly and it cuts 16 hours off our journeys! Ridiculous!
There wasn't a great lot to do in Phnom Penh. Although, we booked a tuk tuk for a days trip tomorrow to visit the Killing Fields, S1 Museum, the National Museum of Cambodia and also the Royal Palace. We went the central market today, however, it seemed to be more of a local market selling household goods, normal clothes and lots of meat. There were a few bits more for foreigners, I managed to buy a painting of a Buddha for my room for $3 after some bartering!
We then went back to the hostel, another lady had arrived by this point and we sat speaking to her for a while! We both Facetimed home as it's Easter Sunday, we were very jealous of the Easter eggs and roast dinners! I loved seeing little Henry, he was so sweet! We headed out for some food and decided to have Mexican. This was AMAZING. It tasted so good but we were both in food comas in the end. We shared potato skins to start and both had enchiladas! We need to stop eating like princesses so we have decided to eat at the market tomorrow! We were both glad to be in bed by the time we settled down, ready for our big day tomorrow. We think the killing fields are going to be extremely sad.
