It rained again in the night and unfortunately was cloudy for a lot of the day, although that suited me as I could sit in the sun without burning to a crisp!
We spent the morning reading and walking up to the summit of the island, then after lunch we went on a visit to the local village on the other side of the island, where many of the workers lived.
It was really nice to see how the local people lived, and had done for many years. We first went to the kindergarten, which was being rebuilt following a bad cyclone a couple of weeks before, and the children sang some nursery rhymes for us. My favourite was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, first in English then Fijian! They are clearly taught to be bilingual from a young age.
After we went and had a kava ceremony with the older people, then the adults performed some traditional songs and dancing for us, again culminating in a Fijian conga line! We were getting quite used to the Fijian goodbye song at this point.
After that they offered handcrafted local goods for us to buy, like jewellery and bookmarks, but weren't pushy which was nice. It had started to rain at that point, so I bought a bracelet then we went very quickly back up the hill over to the resort on the other side for dinner. We managed to get lost and end up in the pig sty on the way though!
