We got up early today to get our transfer to the Yasawa islands, sailing on a bright yellow catamaran to one of the furthest with our Blue Lagoon resort. One choppy ride and several hours later we arrived that afternoon to a crowd of Fijians singing the 'welcome song', complete with guitars and harmonies, on the beach to greet us! We also got started on saying 'Bula!' at any given opportunity, which means hello, life, and just about anything else.
This was our nicest resort and we had a beautiful modern bure complete with outside bathroom! We'd also told them it was our honeymoon, so they'd given us a voucher for a free full body couple's massage!
We spent the rest of the day chilling on the beach and by the pool. I tried to sign up for a yoga lesson, but given my arms she wouldn't let me, which was a bit disappointing :( In the evening enjoyed the amazing a la carte dinner, which was really nice and quite impressive!
We also took part in our first Kava ceremony. Kava is made by a guy squeezing kava powder (a bit like black pepper) in a special large bowl of water through a muslin cloth. It tastes horrible but Fijians love it anyway, apparently it makes them sleepy, although it didn't seem to effect us. You all sit in a circle and take turns, clapping and saying Bula at the appropriate moments. It was fun even if we did hate the taste, preferring a 'low tide' coconut shell full!
