We had driven around Palm Springs a bit the night before, so we got up early and drove straight out to Joshua Tree national park. I really wanted to see it last year in California but we hadn't had time, so I was really excited!
We first drove to a walk in a hidden valley, which was really pretty and showed off loads of the strange wildlife that grows in the desert like ground there. It's an odd mix of cacti and normal looking trees. Anyway, it used to be closed off until a ranch owner blew a hole in the massive rock walls to expose it, so cattle thieves used to steal cattle and hide in there (it used to be wetter and have grasses for them).
We then went over to walk around a man made dam, then up a massive hill to get an incredible 360 degree view of the park from where we had lunch. The Joshua trees were amazing, so weird!
Later we went to see some cactus flowers that were really pretty and rare, then to one of the oases in the park exits. It was really beautiful.
We then drove over to LA, ready to get our flight to Fiji! The medical team at the insurance company had advised I sit in business class due to the discomfort on my arms when trying to sleep on such a long flight, so I got upgraded to business! Finally a silver lining to being all broken!
