We woke up bright and early at 6.30 for breakfast and Rob froze looking at the wall over me in horror. There was a frog crawling just over my head.
After leaping out of bed and telling him I'd take 'guard the door' duty tonight, we got ready for our morning boat ride on the river. We saw hundreds of different birds and caimans - which according to google are an alligatorid crocodilian. We also saw some weird otter things that looked like overgrown guinea pigs and a lizard. Clearly I'm no David Attenborough, but it was impressive. I'm just relieved there were no anaconda. Tony the guide asked if anyone fancied swimming but advised not to if you had an open wound because the piranhas would attack you. We all declined.
When we returned to the beach he handed out rods and bits of beef, and we started fishing for piranhas. It turns out they're very good at stripping off the meat without getting caught by the hook, but I caught two and rob caught one. They've got crazy sharp teeth, Tony showed how mine could cut off a stick in one bite. We gave them to the three people staying in the campsite to have for dinner!
We then had a break for lunch which very conveniently coincided with the Man City match which rob found on their TV, in HD!
Later we went horse riding. Rob's had one wonky ear and was called Jim, mine refused to do anything but follow the next horse stoically. He was called Rufus. For once the mosquitoes were on them instead of us so we had some respite. The walk was really nice and Rufus quite liked me by the end, he kept following me for more pats. Mrs Doolittle.
Later after more nice food we went on a night safari, looking mainly for jaguars. We hadn't been going long before the heavens opened and we were in the middle of the biggest tropical storm ever. Tony offered out a tarpaulin sheet to cover ourselves with, but it was so heavy the rain was flying at us in unrelenting vertical sheets that stung when it hit your eyes, and there was a lake in the middle of the sheet. It hurt to even open your eyes so we had no chance of seeing anything, so shortly after we admitted defeat and came back. The rain had soaked through everyone's waterproofs and we spent the night with the air con on to hopefully dry them before we left the next day.
