Today we went into the jungle! After breakfast at our tour company Max Adventures we met our guide Jamie. It was just me and rob so we had a private tour! We got into our boat on the river and spent about three hours ploughing upstream to our lodge in the jungle.
When we arrived the last people were leaving on our boat, so we had the place to ourselves, with Jamie, a cook and a guy who cleaned up to look after us! It felt a bit surreal.
After a lovely lunch with more salad than I'd had for a while we went on our first trek, taking a small boat a bit further down the river to a trek, which led to a macaw breeding area in a vast cliff. Along the way we ate termites which tasted weirdly like mint and saw spider and howler monkeys, a weird ferret thing, loads of ants and bugs, macaws and vultures. It was really muddy and we were very glad we'd borrowed wellies from the lodge. See pics!
After we came back to the lodge for dinner. We decided not to go for a night time walk until the next day, and settled down for a night in the jungle. What we didn't know was we were sharing our cabin with the biggest moth ever, despite the fact that they'd sprayed so much insect repellent in our cabin that I woke up twice struggling to breathe properly!!!
