Today was a very sad start to Easter Sunday with only two tubes of pringles and a big bar of nestle chocolate to celebrate! We had an early start to our action packed tour however to distract us, and after meeting with our group set off on the uyuni tour. Ten minutes later we were at the border, thankfully a MUCH quicker crossing, and within ten minutes we were into Bolivia!
The scenery was amazing, and it wasn't long before we stopped off to see some amazing lakes on the way, more altiplanic lagoons! We had a couple of stops at more beautiful lagoons, including the Green Lagoon (which wasn't actually green, but was still very pretty), on our way to the first big stop at the local hot springs.
We stayed for around an hour or so just chilling in two natural spring pools which were really warm in the cold day! It was also a nice opportunity to get to know the group.
We had lunch at the springs then headed off for our next stop, which was at some geysers, which were amazing, it's so fascinating to watch them bubble up. The only problem was the smell - one in particular was spewing out tonnes of smoke, all sulphuric gas - ugh!!!
Our next stop was the red lagoon, another beautiful altiplanic lagoon, but with flamingoes! There were far more flamingoes here than those we'd seen in San Pedro, however they were much shier, and every time we got within 20 metres they ran away from us! We didn't like scaring them so we just stood and looked at them for a while. The only downside was how many dead flamingo chicks were on the beach - apparently it's a very harsh environment and loads of them die each year. It was quite sad, but I suppose it's just nature.
After this we headed to the village where we were spending the night, where we were all sharing a dormitory room. Unfortunately one of the guys in our group was really sick with altitude, so we didn't want to stay up late and disturb him sleeping, so we all had an early night ready for the next morning's activities.
