The next morning we went out to find a tour to book our three day Uyuni tour. After managing to find a company with good reviews and booking it all, we had some lunch in Borras again (the nice restaurant from the night before), which had the biggest portions I've ever seen! I had a strange chicken lasagne that was lovely, but I barely made a dent in it!
Later we went out on our tour of the Valle de la Luna. It started with a trip to the salt caves in the desert, which involved us groping through them and walking around the massive ravines left by the rivers, which were now completely dry.
Next we went into the moon valley, up a massive sand dune and into over the valley. The views were incredible, it looks like Mars with so much red rock, salt and sand. Apparently they film scenes in space there, look at the pictures!
Next we went to a formation of three rocks called the Three Marias, which to be honest we weren't convinced by, it felt like something to do to justify the tour, particularly as the one on the left had been knocked over some years ago!
Finally we went back on the bus to a viewpoint over the Valle de la Luna for sunset. It was amazing to watch the sun set over the valley and we loved it.
Later that night, we went on our Astronomic tour. We were initially unimpressed as we'd been told when we booked it that we'd be on a small tour of 8 people and get hotel pickups and wine - when we got on the bus of 16 people we realised that we'd been shifted onto a cheaper tour without those things. However, we persevered and it actually ended up being really good - the guide was very knowledgable and there was an English translator for us three English speakers. We got some amazing pictures of the moon in particular. It was really interesting and we really really enjoyed it in the end. It was brilliant!
