Today despite the strike we managed to sort out a driver to take us to lujan, a local neighbourhood with loads of vineyards. We rented bikes, were given a map with names to go to, and off we went!
The first was a very small one run by a man and his daughter. They do all the labelling etc by hand, and were very friendly, and liberal with the pouring! The next they had recommended was closed, so we went off piste to another called alto vino, or something like that. It was a traditional Argentinian winery, that had been abandoned then renovated by a French family, the one which owns Tattinger champagne! They took us on a really informative tour about how they produce wine. It was absolutely beautiful and the wine was lovely. It was much more professionalised and very like the wineries in napa valley.
After that we had a gorgeous lunch (without wine!) then headed to another vineyard the bike shop had recommended, clos de charcas. This was another beautiful vineyard, where they were in the middle of destemming the grapes (all the vineyards picked by hand). It was another abandoned winery that had been renovated, but they still had all the old cellars and tanks. The wine was nice too!
After a wobbly ride back we went back to Mendoza!
