After a brief stop in Saigon I decided I needed a rest with no distrations so I headed to the quiet Island of Phu Quoc which in on the botton SW point of Vietnam.
I got there on the 3rd December and was immediately hit by the heat, I didnt make things easy for me as I didnt book any accomodation and luckily I met up with another English traveller and I shared a cab with her to a place she had booked in the hope I'd have a room too. The resort was miles from anywhere but that really added to the appeal of the place with bungalows hidden in a tranquill wooded slope down to a deserted white beach. I was in paradise!
Unfortunately they were booked but they proposed something else. I walked up the hill with thm to a bungalow under construction and all it has was a raised floor and a roof. The bloke said they can bed out a matress and stick a mossie net over the top. I really couldnt be bothered to move so I took them up on the offer.
It was the most unique night at one with the wilderness although I must confess Family Guy did get another showing that night to get me off to sleep. One night of that was great but another was not on the cards so I booked into a resort in the main town which was a nice place with a nice bungalow.
After wondering what the hell to do I decided to take a Scuba Diving course which consisted of a day learning in the pool then two days of diving. I'm really happy I did it as now its another thing I can show off and also my instructor was very nice :)
Once I qualified I decided to take a chill day just booking my ferry back to Saigon and getting the old man some world famous Phu Quoc fish sauce. He's gonna be well happy!
I got back to Saigon on the 9th Dec after a b**** of a journey getting back! First the boat was at 8am so another early wake up and they over filled the boat so its was really cramped for the 3 1/2hrs not to mention the nearly happened sea sickness. The mini bus from the mainland Port of Rach Gia to Saigon was cramped too with some discusting local behind me shooting out phlem and clearing every oriphis of the stuff in the loudest manner ever 3 min but in front was a bloody Frog eating surrender monkey having the window open blasting my face with smog and grit from outside! GAY!!!!
I'm happy to be back in Saigon and cant wait to get to Aus. However, Phu Quoc has allowed me to recharge my batteries, get some coral stuck in my knees and top up my tan, so all good really!
Thats it for now, you will next hear about my exploits in Saigon
