After a hate filled journey by land and see from Phu Quoc I arrived Sunday evening in time for a much needed shower and then dinner. It felt like it was the best ever shower!
Anyway, Monday I spent getting into the swing of life a'la hectic and to book a tour to the Cu Chi Tunnels for Tuesday. Whilst in the tourist office, the Aussie guys from Hanoi spyed me and it was good to them again as it meant one thing. Getting drunk! We agred to meet up later for my first booze up since Hanoi.
After my trip was booked I wen to the Ben Thanh Market to buy some gifts to send home and to take to Aus. For the first time, I enjoyed shopping but have no idea if it was the choice, atmosphere or the thrill of haggling but it was good fun haggling and I got some bargains!
Tuesday I went on my tour but getting up has never been so hard! Getting wasted the night before seemed a good idea then but now was hell. I had no energy and our first stop of the tour at the Caoidai Temple in Tay Ninh did not help. The temple is the HQ of the Vietnamese religion Caodism and the temple itself was very impressive with its architecture and detail but the service itself was cack. The music they prayed to was god aweful and I could have done better. It was like strangling a cat dying of lung cancer from heavy smoking.
Next we went to the Cu Chi Tunnels which was more anti American than the War Remenants museum. Our guide who fought for South Vietnam also gave me the impression he didnt like the US Army either! We saw how the VC (Vietcong) lived daily in the tunnels and boy were the tunnels small, even smaller than the Vinh Moc Tunnels. What made my day was getting to fire an M-16 rifle. I was a happy boy!
I cannot understand how quickly they built the tunnels as now the building is so relaxed its like nothing ever happens and the roads were so bumpy they could induce an internal organ to slip out of place!
Wednesday I just tied up the last bits and peices before I left like getting laundry done and posting some stuff back to England and also paying a trip to Fanny. It is a great place to eat out and served a delicious chocolate ice cream and orange sorbet!
