Psalm 46:10 "Be still and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world."
Today we awakened early again because the same as yesterday Doug would be riding right past the hotel. I drove Doug the24 miles back to Aguila and turned him loose as the sun was just beginning to peek over the distant mountains. These were the mountains Doug was riding towards and they were about 30 miles away. I went back to the motel and it was so serendipitous there. I had planned on hurrying into the room to pack so I would be ready to depart when Doug arrived. The Sierra Vista Motel was so nice - you did not feel like you needed to lock your front door (as opposed to the previous night stay in another city we had to batten down the hatches) When I was standing on the front porch I could hear probably fifty birds of several different species singing. There were three rabbits playing in the parking lot. I decided to sit on the porch awhile and watch nature. As I gazed upon the Italian Cypress trees I noticed there were numerous nests in the tree and you could watch the mother birds bringing breakfast to their young ones. I also heard an owl screeching nearby and several doves cooing. It was so good for my soul to stop and watch Gods creation. I do enjoy it as I have been watching it out the window of the truck at fifty-five mph. Today I was enjoying it while sitting still. Doug made it back and we packed and were ready to leave. I had talked to Cindy the day before and I knew I was supposed to pray for her. I told God if I was supposed to then I knew he would make it happen. He did make it happen as she came by the motel to check on things this morning. We had a really blessed time of prayer and she was excited that we prayed for and anointed her. We also gave her five small bibles as she did not have Bibles in the rooms. She was excited. She was a very sweet woman who was selling her motel because she said it was just getting to difficult to keep up with by herself. Part of our prayer was that she would find someone to purchase the Sierra Vista that would love and care for it as much as she had. It was so wonderful making her acquaintance.
We departed and I drove about 8 miles to the top of the mountain to wait for Doug to climb it We stopped in Yarnell, AZ at the top and I really liked their sign that said "Where the Desert Breeze Meets The Mountain Air"
Doug biked the seventy miles between Aguila and Prescott pretty quickly as he is adjusting well to the rigors of the ride. He is resting well, eating and rehydrating well and talking good care of himself thus making the distance he travels per day much more sustainable. As we went along I came to another mountain top Doug had to climb. I was just over the top as I had to find somewhere safe to pull the support vehicle over at. Doug topped the mountain and he accelerated past me at about forty miles per hour and he let out a whoopee that sounded like a kid on a roller coaster. He had been climbing for days without any appreciable downhill runs. It was good to hear the joy in his voice as he sped by. Doug does like the exhilarating feeling of cruising down a mountain. Before we knew it we were in Prescott AZ and we ended the days ride at the Ironclad Bike shop.
Prescott is a vey beautiful town. There are many parks and lakes and biking and hiking trails surrounding the city for people that enjoy nature. (just observe the signs and don't feed the bears… or mountain lions). We went to Lynx Lake and had a wonderful lunch of turkey and avocado sandwiches while sitting in the shade overlooking the lake. We actually took a short nap because the weather was so perfect - a warm day with a cool breeze blowing. After lunch and our siesta, we went to Watson Lake and the Granite Dells. The lake was beautiful with the granite dells projecting skyward rising out of the lake. We watched the kayakers out for an evening paddle launch their kayaks onto the perfectly serene lake. A bald eagle flew overhead scouring the lake for dinner as a group of hikers finished their 5-mile hike around the lake.
We decided to go on back to the motel as it was getting dark and it was getting on towards supper time. A friend from home provided us with the means to have a nice dinner in Prescott and we decided to go to the Palace Restaurant and Saloon. Over the course of its history The Palace Restaurant and Saloon has seen such famous patrons as Wyatt Earp, Virgil Earp, Doc Holliday (in the 1870s before they headed south to Tombstone), and Steve McQueen. During his time in Prescott before leaving foTombsone Wyatt Earp was involved in several gunfights behind the saloon, killing two men. Doc Holliday also killed a man in the saloon during a knife fight. It is famous also for being having been named one of "America's 10 best historic saloons". I had a rack of tender ribs (which were so sbundant I had to finish for breakfast) and mushrooms harvested from the wild and Doug had a tender juicy sirloin steak. Supper was great and we looked around for a bit and then decided to return to our motel as our bellies were full and we were tired from the early morning start. Today has been a good day! God is good!
